the joys of ebay
i wanted to buy this:
CXRacing Intercooler Turbo 16.5x11x3 Inlets on One Side : eBay Motors (item 390154182346 end time Mar-22-10 16:30:00 PDT)
but didn't want to spend so much $$
THEN I FOUND THIS!
16.5"x11"x2.5" JDM TURBO INTERCOOLER MAZDASPEED PROTEGE : eBay Motors (item 140360515215 end time Mar-16-10 18:28:45 PDT)
before you start talking smack about the size.....my goal is 200whp and i am limited due to my over the radiator configuration.

Hmmmm.
In all honestly, looks like a decent unit for your requirements. I've never done an OTR setup, and I don't think I could ever tolerate the frustration of trying to make one work.

joe....the over the radiator setup is really easy. i'm surprised that more people don't do it. my current set-up (using a MSM i/c with an over the rad config) really looks ghetto and is obviously on the small side.
the goal with the new i/c = putting lipstick on a pig.

Scott, here is the current setup install. it won't be much different this time around....other than the i/c and switch to 2.5" piping. i will probably be trying to get away from so many couplers. i want to make it look a bit cleaner....gottah find a welder.

two things:
1- i just received 16.5"x11"x2.5" JDM TURBO INTERCOOLER MAZDASPEED PROTEGE : eBay Motors (item 140360515215 end time Mar-16-10 18:28:45 PDT)
it looks great, packaged perfect, and recieved within 5 days.
2- are you guys doing anything to ensure that all debris is removed from within the i/c before installation?

This is why I would hesitate about running an Ebay i/c. I have a CX Racing radiator, but flushed a massive amount of shiny silverness out of it with the hose before installing. That's good enough for the cooling system, since the only moving part is the water pump. Not good enough for the intake, IMO.

my now new and improved setup.
ahhhhh, i love this new tool. it made my day fabbing a breeze.
almost done my first bracket. trying to duplicate it was the hard part.
here you can see the brackets in their completed, clear coated form. i used some rubber insulators to allow a small degree of movement.
i am not a jdm fan. so don't start any comments. here you can see how it is very flush with the radiator, without any contact. i used some foam insulation for sealing and protection.
final IC location.
i also have pictures of my completely routed/cut to fit Intercooler piping. it's a work of art really. but my damn phone has no reception, so i can't send the pics here yet.
EDIT:
a pic just came through
less than 3' of piping and no hood interference. no notching, nada.
