Cams for turbo 1.6?
 

Right now I'm just entertaining ideas as I've still got a bit more to do on the turbo system itself, but as this car is a street car and autocrosser, that will be tracked eventually, I'd like to find ways to strengthen the mid range power and torque as much as possible for a turbo system, not necessarily needing to boost the top end, but just without sacrificing the top end from what it already is. Can this be done with different cams? Can a noticeable increase in mid range been achieved? I've heard guys speak of needing a lot more lift and leaving the duration the same. Are there any premade cams available that fit this? I'm not searching for maximum peak power. If my existing turbo setup puts out say max 180 whp in the top, I'd like to keep the max whp there and just increase everything under that.

Rebello told me that they had cams when I inquired about a rebuild for my 1.6

I have no idea what they are or how much. Sorry i am not much use.

hooo 600 bucks - I was picturing a better price but maybe I'm out of my mind as I haven't ever shopped for cams. Could be worth it though, any idea what the gains are from these - how much and where in the powerband?

Ryan, have you even installed a downpipe on that GReddy setup yet? IMO you're going about things in the wrong order. You've got the turbo, ECU, and IC, now you need a good downpipe, catback exhaust, boost controller, and a tune. Once you've got 13-15psi into the motor, THEN you can start considering what kind of gains you might be able to see with cams and other headwork. You won't get the full potential out of any cam without a set of cam gears (more $$$), and a bunch of dyno time (more $$$).

the 'bit more' I was referring to was the downpipe. This is in the works as I just received my tax refund.
My thoughts were just wandering and I was curious what options people knew about for cams since I may look at actually getting different cams at some point down the road.
For now, I'm still working on tweaking MS, getting the 460's I just bought in, removing the afm, getting downpipe, etc.
But we can all dream ;)

P.S. I would have done the DP first as you recommended but as I saw it, there was no point to spooling up faster than 4k rpms when the stock ecu was leaning everything out wayyy too much under 4k. Better I figured to get the right control tools and then start buying power adders. Hence the wideband, megasquirt, and 460's that I'm now playing with.

I wonder whether the $600 in cams + $300 in cam gears is worth it, or is it worth it to spend that $900 on a 1.8 motor ($300ish after you sell your 1.6), the FM conversion kit, and an ETD manifold to adapt the GReddy to the 1.8? It wouldn't surprise me to hear that the extra 230cc or so of displacement does more than a high-lift cam.

my vote is PC pro.

Mazda 323 turbo cams should give you better torque and midrange. Think you may have to find them from someone breaking one though.
