Default help me decide on a new turbo

So the chinacharger has finally given up the ghost after a little over a year of abuse.... has some shaft play and the car is smoking (good compression test, great leakdown)...... so now comes the time to make a choice of replacements.....

For those that don't know, the current turbo is a generic T3/T4 57 trim off of ebay..... external gate, dry cartridge..... turbine outlet is a 5 bolt.

I'd like something that won't require me to do a whole lot of new fab work, I don't mind changing out the downpipe to turbine flange if I have to, perhaps run some water lines, etc.....

The current turbo hits 12psi by around 4500rpm..... That's a bit late for my tastes. I'd like my 12psi served up at around 3500....

I've been looking at a T3 turbine GT2860rs, smaller Gt30's, etc.... But I think that perhaps the easiest solution would be small Turbonetics T3/T4 turbo.

Thoughts?

Not a bad deal for a $200 turbo.

Maybe consider a GT3271?

Blaastperformance.com will rebuild your chinaturbo and give you suggestions on choices. Drop him an email. He can make it any T3/T4 you want.

http://blaastperformance.com/index.php?p=asianrebuild

I've got a $50 credit (or maybe $100, can't remember) there from a turbo I sent that I was gonna get rebuilt but never did. You can have it for half that. We'd just need to arrange it with Guillaume.

I have a diy Saab/International T3/T4 .48/.60(60trim) and I'm hitting 5psi by 3k and 12psi by 3500. good luck with the new turbo. Do you want to sell off your blown one?

New turbo came today.... brand new, looks great, can't wait to get it on the car..... Alas, I will be working through saturday.... so unless I install it in the parking lot at work..... It won't go on until sunday...... and I'll be throwin the james bond smokescreen every time I leave a stoplight.....

As for the old turbo...... I'm not sure what I'll do with it, I might take it apart and see what went wrong..... if not I'll consider selling it super cheap

for 125 its a pretty good deal...since you already have a t3 setup this turbo will probably install without any modifcations but this turbo looks like a saab t3 but im questioned about the .60 a/r?

I'm not selling my hybrid hell no. lol. I'm just saying I built something close to what the poster is looking at. Surge? If I don't fully release the throttle on shifts it'll gobble. If I fully release the pedal the bov opens and it blows off just fine with no surge.

60 trim not a/r. the compressor is listed as a .42 a/r. It looks like your every day run-o-the-mill Saab/ect T3. Water cooled is a big+ in my book. Good deal if it's a good turbo.

I tell ya what, If you want the turbo on my car now after I take it off, you can have it for 20 bucks and the cost of shipping. do with it what you will....

I'll be doing the removal/install sunday early in the day, I'll post pics and results when I'm done....

P.S. think I could hurt the motor running the new turbo at wastegate boost (7psi) until I get a new tune? I'm safely tuned for 12psi on another t3/t4 setup right now, and the Hydra is MAP based.... I assume it wouldn't be a problem?

Wait... You bought a turbonetics? Oh man... good luck with that. I hope you never have a problem with it. There great turbos when they work. My friend had a nos turbonetics that died and he can't find parts for ****. It was a brand new T3/T4 but it was old stock. No warrenty came with it. Turbonetics wouldn't even give him specs let alone parts. They never returned his calls.

As far as the T3 goes I'm looking for a water cooled one for an extra but for $20... whats wrong with it?

I assume a seal is bad.... causing smoking at idle and on decel..... I would assume an easy fix

I may be an idiot though... since I assumed that the cheap turbo would go bad before my factory valve seals..... It may be fine
