Default turbine wheel damage...how bad?

So I opened up my small 16g today to prep for rebuilding it tomorrow. I bought it used, and the guy from whom I bought it assured me that aside from being old, it was in great shape with nothing wrong with it.

Now I find this. (See attached pictures)

How bad do you think this is? Would it be terrible to reuse that turbine wheel? If I did find a replacement (if you have one, let me know), would mating the compressor wheel I have currently then need a professional balance? Also, should I e-mail and "complain" to the guy I bought it from?

Thanks everybody.

yeah, get your money back man. Thats not right. You would have to replace the whole wheel and shaft and then have it reblanaced with your current compressor wheel. regardless, just get your money back...unless it was DIRT cheap.

I'd think maybe it was dropped, but it's like that all the way around (but you can only see it on part in the picture, as the basksides look better).

Almost looks like the EGT's were WAY up there and burned it off. Did he say what happened to the motor?

Nope. Said he totalled the car and was just selling off parts. I e-mailed him the pictures, but we'll see if he ever responds.

I've been looking at new turbines, and it looks like they cost $170-200! For that price, might as well find a blown 14b and use the turbine from it.

yeah, getting a turbine from a 14b is the way to go if u dont get your money back from that *******, that sux man!

I had the same kinda thing happen with a 13g, guy told me the same crap.. i get it, and the damn center section was about to fall out of it, the turbine housing was cracked so bad.

Man that blows. Balancing at my local turbo shop in Nashville cost right anywhere from $30- $35. Get your money back for sure if you can then go looking for used parts. You could call turbo shops and see if they have anything used laying around. Like Gpop for example. Never know, you might get lucky.

Couldn't you just file down and blend the blades?

Default what it SHOULD look like

I don't think this thing can be rapaired, getsideways, as it is supposed to look like this:

Clearly, I'm missing a fairly significant chunk of each fin.

You know, timing is great. I finally have time to start moving forward, and I find this. Oh well, **** happens I guess.

Really? I actualy know nothing about it. I just know the mechs do it all the time on our F/A-18's. But I'm shure its compleatly different.
