Default Source for M10x1.25 x 45mm exhaust manifold studs? FM3 people chime in!

I have an older FM manifold (no logo) that has a super-thick flange on the 4 corner locations, but longer studs are IMPOSSIBLE to find:
  • The first guy I talked to at FM wasn't familiar with the older manifolds
  • Keith at FM knew what I needed, but said those studs were originally hand made (!) and they haven't stocked them in years
  • ARP doesn't have anything shorter than 86mm
  • Keith's suggestion for a metric bolt superstore (Metric MCC) didn't have anything in that pitch in stock
  • McMASTER CARR doesn't even carry studs in that pitch

Lots of Toyotas and Hondas use that pitch, but all I can find is a 40mm stud for those cars from Dorman (03105). That 40mm may even be overall length instead of "stick out" length.

I'm sure someone here has bought an old kit or broken an uber-stud... Vash? Viper? Ben? Any ideas on a source? I'm not even concerned with material at this point

Let me look around and see what I have. I cant promise anything, but I know I have a box of studs in the toolbox. I cant remember if they're from my FM3 setup or my older Greddy setup.

You can always buy a longer stud and cut it to fit.

48mm is overall length; I think those are a few MM longer than the stock studs but I don't think the nut would fully thread. The studs I'm after are closer to 57mm overall length. I may just try those though if I can't find anything longer. Thanks!

I hadn't, but no studs in 1.25 pitch :( Thanks for the suggestion though... there's a Fastenal not too far from my house.

An old high school friend runs part of Wayne bolt and nut. I bet they can make exactly what you want, but it probably wouldn't be cheap for small batches.

If you are serious, have exact dimensions, know what metals you'd prefer, and willing to pay I can shoot him a text and ask what they'd charge.

Just found these as well, probably easy to cut down to size if you need to shorten them.

Well I looked around and I just found these studs. They came with my chinacharger. They are 2" long which I think is closer to 50mm.

Size: 105.6 KB

I remember the FM3 manifold having the 4 corners beefed up which made it about 1/4 or so thicker. I just don't know if the thread pitch is right. These are also the same thread as my Garrett turbo flange, so I'm thinking its the same but I'm not certain.

I know I had a small box of studs somewhere but I cant find it. If these are what you need though let me know and you can have them.

Thanks for digging those out, but from what I've seen, turbo hardware is mostly 8mm.

I may stop by Autozone tomorrow and just see if they have anything even a mm longer than the stock studs, like for the Tacoma that uses the same thread pitch.

Ben, I hope it doesn't come to making custom studs! Your link didn't work, but I did see they have long threaded rods that I might be able to cut... but dang... what possessed FM to hand-make hardware?

Autozone = fail. FM does sell 35mm studs which are slightly longer than stock, but still not as long as I'd like. There's GOT to be someone out there that manufactures these things...

Find a Technical college....Hire a student to do them In class...would be good practice for what he is going to need to be able to do when He gets into the work force....then have them Heat treated....The right way Not a torch and a bucket of water...make three sets and sell the other two to cover your expenses..

Do a google search > call what looks to be a competent vendor > profit

M-Carr is kinda terrible when it comes to metric hardware (which baffles me).

There are plenty of good metric hardware vendors out there (and usually somewhat local); however, they're used to selling in bulk so their websites are never set up for e-commerce - their a PO number type of place. If you call around there's a good chance you can get something close.

I wish I could suggest some but their saved on my work 'puter, which I'm not on.

Viper suggested MiataRoadster, and I thought he found the holy grail until the owner told me they only stock BOLTS for those corner locations now

BEGi is actually willing to make them, but they sure ain't cheap. I didn't know that BEGi used to make the hardware for FM. If I bought a piece of all-thread long enough to cut them myself, the price would be pretty close to what they're asking.

I'll probably just suck it up and support our vendor unless someone has a ringing endorsement for Grade 10.9 bolts. Bolts just sound like a terrible idea with all weight and heat stress they'll be subjected to though.

EDIT:
I read the PM from viper on a phone and didn't see the photo, and Bill didn't bother to tell me that by "bolts" he meant "ARP bolts with nordlock washers"! Maybe I will be going with bolts after all if Bill still carries them...
