Default EGR in downpipe

I understand that the purpose of the EGR system is to reintroduce exhaust gases into the combustion chamber. But can the exhaust gases be picked up from my downpipe versus tapping the turbo manifold? I plan to use an HKS manifold and it seems that there is no provision on the manifold for EGR.

I wouldnt see why not. Personally i'm just gonna either cut the wire to the CEL light or put a switch on it and block off the EGR.

You will have a boost leak if you tap your downpipe. If you plan on keeping your egr, it must be tapped at the manifold.

Hey Stripes can you explain why? I'm not saying I doubt your info, I just want to have a full understanding. Thanks.

Since I'm running an HKS manifold, I had the same idea of tapping the downpipe for the egr valve instead of the manifold. I do know the egr valve is suppose to stay shut under WOT. At cruise or any driving condition other than WOT, the stock computer decides when to allow exhaust gases into your air mixture for emissions. Its my assumption you are going to have issues going in and out of boost when your egr valve bypasses your engine and turbo and goes directly into the exhaust. I think you'll be better off forcing any adjustments from the egr through the turbine instead of dumping into your downpipe.
