Wrc has actually ordered a set for me from Mazda Motorsport. My hats off to him.

mrgoodwrench has done just an immaculant job at testing these parts. This guy is going to be my official tester if he wants it. Seriously standing novation for the abuse he put on what I sent him. Multiple installs and removals, solid mechanical knowledge. Couldn't ask for someone easier to work with.

The first reports back are that the uppercam gears work great. No slip on a supercharged 260 whp 230wtq miata at 7800 RPM.

He did have problems with the lower cam gear parts, but I think its because it was used on a supercharged car instead of a NA or turbo car. They held up fine, but he said there were some vibrations from them. I believe they were flexing too much do to the supercharger pulley and tension. I'm going to redesign them, and do an indepth resonance analysis to see whats going on.

I've been waiting to hear back one more report from Dr. Goodwrench.

If you want the aluminum versions I'm comfortable with selling those now. The carbons we're still working on the best way to manufacture them. We've got the strength 100%, but the time it takes to make them is still a little long for production. We're afraid we'd be on backorder. We know what to do to get the carbon version to a reasonable level, we just haven't gone there yet.

As far as fasteners, aluminum is just too wimpy. With three stud/nut sets I want to make sure I've got a great high strength fastener in there that will hold up to thousands of tightenings no problem. The setups come stock with wavelocks, and the carbon series will have an additional washer ontop of the wavelocks to distribute the load better.

Right now I'm looking at 30 dollar a piece for titaniums studs 1 inch long. Yea right! I'll see how much they are to make in house and get back to you.
What about a compromise? Is the only problem with aluminum fasteners the longevity of fastenings? If so, sell extra fasteners and tell people not to torque each set more than x amount of times.

Possible? I mean, fasteners don't need to be bullet proof, they're just fasteners. Look at head bolts for ***** sake.

Anyway, just an idea to shave weight, but not kill your pricepoint.

they look tasty, but if the cam pulleys were not carbon and had more than 3 bolts, i'd have a kit but would want alternator + water pump pulley too.

thanks for showing us these

Aluminum Cam Gears ready to go at 99$ shipped a piece. These are the lightest cam gears out there, and are meant to be a bridge between performance and value of the carbon based units which will be $139 a piece. These fit 89-97 both gears, 99-05 exhaust gears. The 99-00 intake gears are coming soon.

you'd probably want those timing marks to be as clear and deep as possible, media blast might make them harder to read.

Good lord that's beautiful. If I knew what motor I would be running, I'd pick one up. :-)

Once we get the trigger system tested we'll be ready to finish up the line with Carbon Fiber units. Not sure on release time yet it all kind of depends if our first attempt at triggering properly is good.

im not even gonna read this whole thread, the first few post will do. while this all looks very very nice, my hat off to you on the machining. but this is typical engineering retardation

stop running your ******* numbers and use some common sense. who cares how many bolts you need to tighten. better safe then sorry, if your running some high lift cams with close piston to valve clearence and that thing slips. WHAM!

all engineers care about is numbers and simulation ..... lets look at apollo 1

i can understand the lower parts, my ati balancer comes with aluminum timing belt cog. i dont know if i would trust aluminum holding the balancer on even if it is 7075. did you helicoil the threads?? maybe titanium would be a better option

Now, what I'd like to see is a 36-1 or 60-2 timing wheel hub and a VR sensor mount...

just saying.

Vishnu never got back to me :(

good luck with your personal design of 30 bolt solid block of steel cam gears. I'm sure they will be very strong.
