Default BEGi or ???

I've been knocking around ideas for turbo-ing my 'yata.. I'm piecing together a turbo build, I scored a free td04 13t from an old Volvo, totaled with 791 miles! So I have a practically new turbo, gonna have a custom manifold and downpipe made, I have an IC, BOV, and some other little oddball things as well, the car is a '93, within the last year she has gotten 9:1 comp pistons, cometic head gasket, Pauter (I think that's spelled correctly) rods.. I've come to the point in my piecing together where fuel control now has my attention, I know MS is life, but that isn't happening, at the moment anyways... On stock ecu, I've heard of people running Vortech FMU's, and I keep hearing/reading about BEGi afpr's, just need input on which one is gonna be what I need.. I am going to be buying bigger injectors, if necessary, and I have a Walbro 190.. I'm looking to get as close to 200hp as I can, I want to run no more than 10psi boost. As I said, I know MS is the way to go, but I'm damn sure not buying anything ebay.. Thanks in advance guys.

How can you afford forged rods but not a megasquirt? You need a megasquirt. Stop saying you can't afford one. Stop buying other **** and save up for the ms first.

It's not really an affordability thing... The forged rods appeared very cheap on a local craigslist post, I don't think the guy knew what he was selling so I jumped on them... I know it's the best thing out there (Megasquirt) but on the low boost numbers I'm gonna be running, I didn't think it would be completely necessary, was just asking some advice, that's why I joined this forum, for help and such.

By the time you get it running well using bandaids, you will have spent as much as a megasquirt.

First step to either though is getting a wideband O2 sensor.

If you really want to cheap out (and I am going to get yelled at for saying this, bring on the neg cats! ) track down a compleet, old school FM link ECU. Are they perfect? no. Do they run the car reasonably well if you take the time to learn how to work it? Yup. My friend got his for $150, runs way better than the bandaids and stock ECU ever did. Figure you can get one for $200 or less if you look hard enough. Toss in a set of FlowForce injectors, AME UEGO wideband, and set the car up to run sequential fuel and you will be fine for your power goals.

That said, I have an MS3x, and that is what you reaaaaaly want.

Also, boost after learning how to tune.

no. don't do any of that. get proper ecu or get a job and then get proper ecu. either do it right or accept the fact that you are a moron hack and stop posting here. We're here to help people that want to be helped, not those who know the right answer but want us to approve their stupid decision to run junk anyway.

I really think that haggard garage bullshit has spawned some true retardation.

Then why are you still trying to convince us that your original ideas are better than ours? If you joined this forum to get help and solicit our advice, why are you pushing back against the advice you are receiving?

We are not yes-men here. If you have a bad idea, expect to be told as such, and usually not kindly. Your idea of running a built motor on bandaid management is awful. Don't do it. If you can't afford a MS, sell your built motor and put a healthy stock 1.6 back in the car (you don't need forged rods for your power goal anyway), then use the funds to buy an MS. Better yet, sell your built 1.6 and put a stock 1.8L motor in the car, since that will produce a better powerband and 200whp more easily than your motor will.

Convincing us that an MS is out of your budget when you have a built motor and are talking about a "custom manifold and downpipe" is going to go over like a lead balloon.

I never said anything about not being able to afford anything, nor have I ever watched "Haggard Garage" I don't even know what that is... Also, I'm far from a "moron hack" and I'm very employed.... I don't know why ppl grow bigger ***** and bash ppl on the interwebs, works better than Viagra maybe? I've never needed to go that route, But anyways, all the talk about MS, if I could get a little better info on it, instead of having a pissing contest with a bunch of guys (not everyone, or even a fraction of ppl on here) that'd be great... Everyone is telling me ms3, ms3... But I feel like that's more than what I'll need, anyone running MSpnp2? That can give me a little input on it? The 3 has functions for VVT and such, which is one reason I say it's more than what I need.

Would also like to add, I never said "My idea is better" in any fashion, THAT IS WHY I ASKED A QUESTION, and as far as not needing forged internals, I bought the car with a bad motor and rebuilt it, I picked up the forged stuff cheaper than OEM stuff and figured why not? I'm a friendly person, advice does not need to be given with a shitty attitude because no one is better than anyone else, we all drive Miata's, and we all have interest in making them more fun.

then search and learn like a man and stop asking to be spoon fed. if you care more about how we say things than what we say, then you don't belong. go on m.net where they'll tell you stupid things but really kindly, while stroking your hair and caressing your *********

Sorry, it just seemed like you are the typical "turbo my **** miata for cheap af" kinds of guys.

I mean, we all drive miatas, so we are all looking for a way to assert dominance.

I don't know anything about the mSpnp2.

Needs moar search button...

Cash in hand? Great.

But have you actually done the research for a proper reliable build?

Plz, do more homework. Check out the build section and sort through views, ignore adj tho... just rambles

Nah, I don't care more about how than what is said.. Because aside from the way things are said, good points have been noted, and really that kinda thing is appreciated.. And I can understand that, as far as the "turbo my **** cheap" guys.. I tried that once, and I no longer now have a civic.. But! I would've rather blown up 10 civics than my Miata, I've not skipped out on anything for my car, price wise.. I know the words cheap, boost, and reliable DO NOT mix.. Just with all the talk about afpr's and FMU's, I didn't know if those were comparable fuel management vs MS, forgot to mention I do have wbo2, I just don't wanna spend a **** ton of money on something until I'm sure it's what I need, and there's no better way to get that info than talk to ppl that have been at the point I'm standing in, ya know?

there is no talk of FMU's. there hasn't been since like 2008 when we started getting proper ecu's. only the random clueless n00bs bring it up from time to time and we tell them it's garbage.

I'm glad you're starting to see the light.there are many megasquirts, there are also many other systems. no one in their right mind runs bandAIDS/FMU. What's funny is even the stupid begi FMU's people have bought recently all leak and don't work right. fail/fail

with how cheap parts are for these cars there's no excuse to skimp. this is one of the cheaper cars to modify out there

I googled Haggard Garage and no, lol.. Just no.. And yeah, ur correct as far as how cheap it is to get decent power outta these things, I decided on it simply because 1: I have forged goodies, and 2: rwd..
At one point in time, I was a honda kid thru and thru, I can't tell you how many B-swapped hatches and such I've been offered for my car.. I wish I had the capability to assemble my own MS because of the price difference, but a bike wreck years ago destroyed some nerves and made me shaky... But to me, even the $800 price tag is worth what MS2 offers.. With my internals, my 13t, an MS2 and rx7 injectors, what kinda power do you guesstimate I could make? Thanks for your input, btw.

contact braineak for a good price on a great unit.
ditch the rx7 injector junk
get flowforce 610's
ditch the 13t unless you already have the manifold and downpipe for it. otherwise somewhere between 200-240.

or get an MK Turbo setup from shiuend and make 250-300

I actually tried to contact braineak about one either yesterday or the day before and haven't heard anything :(, he was offering them for like $675 which is a total steal, I'm hoping he is just busy and hasn't had time to get back in touch.. I do already have the manifold, downpipe is almost done.. 225hp would be awesome.. Hope I do hear from him though. That'd help me a bunch.
