Half assed NB
Hi there fellow Mazda fans,I've allready had an intro post but was almost two years ago, so thought I might do a quick hello again from down under South Africa.(English not my first language, please excuse spelling or grammar)
Ive been prosessing and reading info on this site like someone posessed...and found most people very helpfull indeed.Got tremendous help from 18psi, and even some from sawzill fae...(gotta like him though)!
I would very much appreciate some help regarding my car since I've officially went to the dark side and have a new churbo in my posession(same as curlys)
t 25 base with ar.49 hostide and . 42 cold.
I dont know of allot of people with B6 NB experience whom can help me,and I have the ONLY ONE in South Africa.I bought the car in Japan and imported it myself. Its euro spec NB with a 1.6 B6 special package, has 80k miles on it.Im looking to get 200whp max.will be forging the rods, stock pistons new rings, new main bearings and new big end bearings(all oem except the rods)
Performance parts in my country is limited to knock off octane boosters and if you do find something you end up financing the guy's family for a year for basic parts. Please keep in mind one of your $ is 8$ of mine..and will be buying most of the parts from the US!
Hope you can help me with a few qeustions:
1)The clutch,im looking on buying one on e-bay,but not sure if the US B6 of up to 93,had the same clutch as the NB with a B6?(dont know if the NB B6 is running a BP flywheel and clutch?)from what I gathered on Australian and New Zealand forums they reckon its the same as US B6???????
2)The differential...please tell me its not the same as pre 93 US spec NA cars, but rather the same as the US NB cars?(also do you know if its a LSD?)
3)Anything on the NB B6 I should be watching for spesifically?
4)I cant see or find the so called oil feed location that the pre 93 us spec NA has on the exhaust side of the engine, right at the back of the engeine close to the flywheel so to speak....can please redirect me to the oil feed?
5)I have a T25 turbo with .48 turbine and .42 comp housing set at 14psi with a full stand alone system...you think I'll see 200 ponies or not with professional tune?
6)will have an Artech taco manifold that Abe is kind enough to help me with and busy building,a 2,7" exhaust with 27x7x2,5 cooler(egay),F1 6 puck
clutch, not sure on which injectors at the moment but thinking of rx 7 550's injectors ,because can find them on e gay ,flowed for $180US
Please tell me if you would change anything in my idea of listed parts or planning!
YOUR HELP WIL BE OF PHENOMINAL VALUE TO ME AS I CANT SEEM TO FIND THE ANSWERS TO MY WEIRD SPEC CAR....THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME...I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER!!

Nothing wrong with wanting a little confirmation, IMO. Flame me if you will, but I'd rather take a verbal from some nerd with a big e-peen than spend hundreds (of thousands) of dollars on stuff I cant use or return.
Search feature is overrated IMO, I do use it alot on a number of forums, but for the first 10 pages all you usually get is people asking questions or spam with my keyword followed by somebody saying to use the search feature. A couple hours later you run into a thread that touches on the subject matter but just doesnt quite fulfill your desire for a solid answer.
Wish I could be more helpful OP, but I'm new to the mazda game myself and haven't had any dealings with a B6, good luck tho!

Cast mani from Begi or FM...get rid of that junk little crap turbo and at least get an SR20 T25, get a DIYPNP or custom MS standalone but read up A LOT about megasquirt, don't use those junk rx7 pnp's they are old and out dated...and don't use a puck clutch.
FM Level 1 clutch, stock injectors, or RX8 425's (195500-4450) if you think you'll need the extra fuel.

You wanted opinions...there you go. Now read more as most likely all of your answers can be answered by simply reading older posts.

I'm calling you out. Post the search results showing answers to these questions that have been previously posted on this forum. Or apologize to Juan.

Part of the joy of MT.net is calling out lazy noobs. But in this case ... all of his questions are very commonly asked? Really? And answered on this forum? He has an NB with the 1.6.

Here ya go champ, answered as much as I could.
Don't know much about the nb euro spec 1.6 so some of the stuff I'm completely clueless about.
4)I cant see or find the so called oil feed location that the pre 93 us spec NA has on the exhaust side of the engine, right at the back of the engeine close to the flywheel so to speak....can please redirect me to the oil feed?
You'll probably need to source oil from the oil pressure sensor on the intake side like the US nb's
5)I have a T25 turbo with .48 turbine and .42 comp housing set at 14psi with a full stand alone system...you think I'll see 200 ponies or not with professional tune?
200? yes
more? probably not.
I'd go bigger but its up to you and what your plans are for the car
6)will have an Artech taco manifold that Abe is kind enough to help me with and busy building,a 2,7" exhaust with 27x7x2,5 cooler(egay),F1 6 puck
clutch, not sure on which injectors at the moment but thinking of rx 7 550's injectors ,because can find them on e gay ,flowed for $180US

I would advise against the egay 6-puck.

Like always a great help indeed...Im telling you poeple this guy(18psi) is like a Mr hugh heffner regarding miatas,
U want to know something you ask him!I will be changing the turbo for something bigger, I think I will scratch my *** for few more and get act clutch. Regarding the oil feed I appreciate tour help...so I reckon I just "T" in an oil feed for the turbo from the oil pressure sensor?

I just found this on google....and think my B6 is not the turbo based B6 that you folks have over there....that means no under piston oil squirters, which in return could mean an epic fail for turbo build....if this is true i should seriously reconsidder my turbo planning for the car....whats your opinions on this?
The 88/90hp engine wasnıt a detuned version of the 115/116hp 1.6, but rather was a different unit than the one used in the original 1600s. The same engine family, but a unit derived from a later mormally-aspirated B-series, not the modification of the B6 Turbo which the first (1989-92) 1600 was. The later 1.6 also has a completely different engine management system.
There was an engine rationalisation (the 1.6 turbo on which the MX-5ıs engine was based was taken out of production) and the initial plan was that the 1.8 was going to be the sole engine for the car worldwide. When a number of European importers complained that the 1.8 was too expensive or would have tax problems in specific markets, the new 1.6 was hurredly slipped into the program by taking a standard Familia/323 1.6, making some minor revisions to the lower block and putting a new head on it.
Again, if weıre talking about the 88/90hp engine it isnıt detuned, itıs a different engine. ALL 1.6s built before 1994 have the original, turbo-based engine (which w a s detuned to 105hp for North American automatics). If itıs a 1994 or later and a 1.6, itıs the 88/90hp atmo engine.
Different combustion chamber design, elimination of the distributor drive on the intake cam and I think thereıs a difference in valve size. And itıs not that the 88/90hp engine has larger valves, if you get my meaning. Also, (and this has nothing to do with the head but I just remembered it) Iım pretty sure the block was O-ringed with the first 1.6 (an artifact from it coming from the turbo) and I know the block was stiffened slightly when it was modified for londgitudal mounting. Hirai-san was an absolute lunatic about driveline stiffness from the fan to the back cover of the third member.

I decided today that im going to it and boost it.....
1)forged rods, new rings and hone, new main and big end bearings
2)full face ceramic stage 2 F1 clutch
3)rx7/8 injectors
4)sticking with small turbo for win spool
5)stil deciding between FM/BEGI manifold cast or artech magic(help choose?)
6)2,7"inc dual exhaust sytem
7)full stand alone
8)wideband
Probably finalise and oreder everything this weekend....
I'll post and make sure to photograph everything so the next sad wouldnt split ---- hairs building his JDM/EURO spec NB with familia B6...
Hopefully a build thread with pics would atract more replys and interest than asking qeustions on here...
So I geuss ill be the giunea pig...
