Question Less priviliged TURBOS in AFRICA

Hi there guys,I allready introduced myself, but still a noob, and please excuse any bad spelling or grammar since I'm from AFRICA and not use to all the mouse click parts you have available in the states, here you get everything on a ***'s back(UPS) and usually from a ***,and also pay through youre *** for it!

I'm from South Africa and have learned a **** load from all you guys on here and appreciate any help, you really got **** sorted on youre turbo mods, and since I'm on the edge of going to the dark side of boosting.....but there are a few things I would like to know before boosting a stock B6 motor abbout 8 psi...

I know E BAY kits not a lotto winner on here but since its the easiest way to get ANY kit for my car over here .... I'm thinking about it......

I saw "decent" kits for around $1500( I know there's still allot I will need to complete the kit)
NOW here is my qeustion I'm driving a 2000 model NB WITH A 1.6 WITH A B6 engine.......and I was wondering if a 323 GTX turbo engine would fit right in,engine mounts,5 speed box and housing etc since I saw complete engines TURBO BUILT 323 gtx on EBAY for around $1500?

Would you suggest going that way with stronger rods and pistons in it,factory turbo on it and run it on a stand alone system?
Another thing, should I worry about guages not working if running a stand alone such as a rev counter oil pressure etc on the stock B6 with a DIY turbo?

Thanks for reading and all your help all you guys are very sharp and funny as hell!

323 GTX engine will fit. My assumption would be that you would have to use the Miata's motor mounts as well as intake manifold, and the 5 spd tranny won't work since the motor is facing the wrong way in the 323 - just bolt up the tranny from the Miata.

If you just want 8psi buy a voodoo2 from FM and call it a day. No need for anything other than the stock motor. Much less hassle than dealing with incomplete kits and ebay scammers on a different continent.

Question

I was wondering if the miata tranny will fit...thanks now i know!

Regarding the 8 psi and me being in africa, well I really would like to rape the occasional S2000 or Focus rs so I might end up turning up the boost(going ape in africa when a prius overtakes me in traffic!)and dont want to end up with valves flying through the hood on that boost(say max 10psi?)

Its not my only car but sure as hell dont want to jerk through my *** or end up raping the small stock 1.6 with a prefab turbo kit!
thanks for the advice much appreciated!

What makes you think a stock b6 will throw valves through the hood at only 10 psi from a GT2560R?

What makes you think an ebay "built" motor would be more durable than your current motor?

Sorry my word choise was not as accurate as I hoped it to be on that, struggling with the english, what I meant by "BUILT" was that it was a stock 323 GTX engine(turbo built by the factory...)
Sorry I'm the idiot!
Won't buy a motor on Ebay that was "built" by someone else....its usually a import engine for sale by a company importing it from japan....
Factory turbo motors usually more durable than conversions?

I was under the impression that the BPT exhaust manifold does NOT work on the Miata... IIRC, the turbo location is wrong.
That's assuming he tries to use the complete BPT assembly; factory turbo and all

Jip that was the idea in qeustion, whether a BPT could work on my NB miata with factory everythinng on the motor(manifolds and turbo) and just bolt on my 5 speed tranny and smack a stand alone on it?

My ultimate goal is to have a nice weekend cruiser(160-200hp) and spank the occasional GOLF gti,or focus RS,CIVIC TYPE R.....no drag racing or drifting of any sort just the occasional street race from light to light...

I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP,THANKS A MILLION!

160-200hp is possible on the stock motor with adequate timing and fuel control, which you should have anyway.

[QUOTE=BenR;642743]160-200hp is possible on the stock motor with adequate timing and fuel control, which you should have anyway.

How safe and durable is it then, dont want to push it more than I drive it....?
Would you go with GT2560 or 2860 with the 0.64 turbine?

Im thinking the GT2860 dont want to run it in full boost on the highway at say 75 -80 mph cruising(traffic cops useless here) and I know the 5 speed tranny enjoys high rpm @ that mph......

The car has just hit 80k miles and just did all the valves and seats for good compression for the turbo.....rings and pistons still very good as well?
whats youre suggestion, would you go with DIY turbo or BPT?

My suggestion for you is to give FM or BEGI a call and order a kit. With a street driven 160-200hp you're not asking to push the power envelope. I don't imagine you have a lot of good fabricators and race shops nearby, having a complete kit with all the parts in the same box would be a lot easier and likely cheaper in the long run than piecing it together from ebay parts each requiring separate shipping and may be broken or take modification to fit.

My old b6 motor had over 180k miles and was running in that power range for the last 40k+ miles. It's still a functioning motor sitting in shed as a spare.

Or buy a welder, a sawzall, a turbo, intercooler, hoses, injectors, some tubing, flanges, and a megasquirt kit and have at it.

Question

Really appreciate youre input and starting to get the idea i'm underestimating the stock B6......I had a look at begi and Fm kits and would considder it.thanks!

But surprisingly folks over here rather clued up and have some decent race shops indeed, and turbo the **** out of everything(theres one guy who tuned a twin cam 1600 toyota motor to 855 whp) but everything built here is band aid and no bolt on kits,so fabricating or modifying not that big a deal...... just have too leave a limb behind for the bill........

Begi offers a choice between 2560 and the 2860,what would you recommend for cruising at about 80mph....and not fry or grenade a manifold or something...and what psi on what turbo to get close to say 180-200whp?

2560 will give better response and the 2860 will make more up high. At 80 in fifth gear, either turbo will make full boost by you simply laying into the throttle.

I loled. Your never going to make enough pressure to blow a manifold apart. If you do, let me know. I am running 13-14psi on an internally stock 1.8. You will be fine as long as you have a good tune. A good tune is the key to not having to have Mad Scientist Jessie tear your engine down to replace the piston rings you just fried. Don't worry, one day you can beat Dom.

Sorry for the english guys, and totally appreciate youre laughs as well,I know its not the best but its not my mother tongue, but just finished my law degree and did some subects in english, but better chance of me gettting pregnant than a A+ for spelling and grammar...

I am aware of the fact that both turbos will be @ full boost if I'm gunning it @ that mph, just thought if I'm cruising the larger GT 2860RS with the 0.64 turbine will take longer to spool and not boost as quick and as much as the 2560 @ that rpm therefore making lower EGT's and a happier manifold(manifold welds, and cracks) along with a lower operating engine temp....but maybe just talking out my ***,please correct me if I'm wrong?

I think I am going to boost the stock B6 about 8 psi on a t28 and a stand alone management......I was wondering how the management affects the control pannel and gauges, such as rev counter etc....does the instruments work through the ecu or seperately?

I REALLY ENJOY YOU GUYS ALONG WITH ALL THE LAUGHS AND INPUTS,THANKS!
