Default review of the ebay greddy knock off bov

Well for 50 bucks it works pretty well. But i have found that it does not like sustained high boost for long periods of time. In short i think i broke it :( it is not sealing at idle like it used to and i am now only getting 6 psi still if you where only gonna run 12 or so psi this bov is responsive and has a good sound to it. So now the question is how do i fix it? I havent taken it apart yet but i am thinking maybe a better spring or something. Any who i hope this helps someone somewhere and some one out there will know how to fix it

There's so many good OEM BOVs out there (DSM, WRX, BOSCH) that aren't that expensive I don't know why anyone would take the chance on the ebay stuff. I guess if you find something that works, the bling factor might sell a few.

you can't beat a DSM BOV for the price.

You can go to a hardware store and get a tougher spring probably. Whatever fits

i probably will comeone scot half the fun of this stuff is getting it to be tough enough to take my abuse. If i hadn't been running 14.5 psi, for several minutes since the install then i doubt it would have failed i just hope it wasnt the diagphram. We shall see.

The ebay bov I bought is IMO a quality piece. It was recommend to me from a guy runn 25psi on his Xr4ti. It's fully adjustable - both with the three included springs and the tensioning nut.

I have the type s knock off. It has worked fine for a long time now. After I installed the intercooler my boost went down a little bit, like .5 psi, and that was enough to get me compressor surge. I took the purple cap off, and as far as I can tell it is just like the real thing. I did the "single spring mod" which consists of taking the stiffer of the two springs out. That fixed the compressor surge, if it turns into a boost leak at higher boost, I will have to put the spring back in, and use the smaller hose nipple to get it to open at low boost. All in all I am happy with it. Go for the S, not the RS if you want to recirculate, because it saves you buying an extra part to connect the recirculation hose.

Magnamx-5, I don't know what is up with yours, and I have never taken mine past 7psi, but definitely take the cap off and make sure it has both springs.

I ended up selling my original Greddy type s as it caused the car to run rich as hell and stall. Sounded lush though..

Well you guys i took the BOV apart today and learned 4 things and to think if i was still on stock ecu this would have been very aparent to me.

1. The spring is very tough and not my problem

2. The diaphram is still in great shape.

3. I am a ******* retard This will most likely be the qoute of the day

4. My crossover coupler got pushed off the TB a little.

So it looks like i will be buying some t clamps. FWIW BOV 1 worm clamps 0 :gay:
The bov is an excelent unit and until further notice flys with my blessing off the shelves of ebay sellers, i might have to see how it tolerates 17 psi this weekend

lol, I once drove my MSed MR2 like that for about a mile until I had a chance to hook fix the hose. Worm clamps IMHO are ok as long as you have a good barb on the pipe, and are careful that the clamp is seated and torqued correctly.

I just threw a RS knockoff on my civic and its working fine. Much nicer than the dsm bov I had, I love the dsm bovs... but it whistles at like -14vac and was driving me nuts. For 30bucks... I couldn't not do the knockoff

Hey!

Glad to hear it's working out for you! Better than sitting on a shelf in my garage...

Any Pics of the DSM?
