Default How is my free turbo?

I got a free turbo from a buddy of mine who says it is a T25, but doesn't know anything else about it. He used it on his single slam civic setup, and it is tiny.

From the Garrett SN I found it to be off of a 88-90 Pontiac Sunbird GT, but I can not find any maps/info about it.

It is a T25; Turbine .49AR Compressor either .43AR or .48AR, it is hard to tell.

So what am I looking at for the limit of this turbo? All I am looking for is around 200hp at the wheels.

It was a 2.0L and I believe it was rated at 155hp stock.

You might be able to make it. I have a turbo similar to that on my floor, don't expect to much, you'll probably have to max it out to get much over 200 out of it.

It is the exact same specs as a DSM turbo. It's the perfect unit IMHO for a 200whp application. It will spool practically off idle with EBC and still be very efficient in the 10-12psi range you'll need to get there. Anything bigger is really overkill for that power goal. Even my SR20det T25 sacrifices a little spool to that one, but will stay efficient well into the 220-230range.

It also has the benefit of being a standard T2 flange... so your mani and DP will bolt up to practically any other T25/T28 out there (not including the DSM turbo's which use a funky turbine flange), so upgrading to any GT turbo for well over 250whp is just a credit-card away.

My recommendations, UNLESS YOU KNOW FOR SURE IT'S MECHANICALLY SOUND, is to purchase a GPopShop rebuild kit for $80. and it'll be good for 100k miles.

Here's how to rebuild one:
https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10996

That turbo, plus MS and a Begi Mani/DP combo with 460's a small intercooler will get you 200whp in the 10-11psi range.

You'll need 12psi with bandaids.

Cool, and I know the turbo is good. The guy I bought it from bought it new, and used it for less than 10K miles.

What are you thinking about for the rest of your setup?
200whp should be really easy with that turbo.

I am probably going to go with either the BEGi T25 mani, or see what comes up for sale soon. I can custom build my own DP for cheap so that is not a problem. Custom I/C setup. I will probably go with the e-manage as far as tuning unless I can convince myself that megasquirt can be done for cheap enough and be worth the trouble.

Should be a fun set up. :-) No worries, get some decent managment and go beat on it, and know that you'll swap it out later.

Yeah that is the idea.

I am trying to do this fairly cheaply, and I can always switch the turbo out later. For now though the money I would have been spending on a turbo can go towards something else. Like a clutch.
