Hello, I have searched without finding anything, but I was wondering if anyone had done a subaru style gauge pod set up on the top of the dashboard in the center slightly facing the driver? I am not a fan of the A-Pillar gauges and would like to keep my radio as well as have maximum visibility of the gauges. I was thinking of using a pod like this:

Any thoughts or reasons why it wouldn't work?

How would they block the tach and speedo, im talking about center dash top mounted above the radio on dashboard like this:

I have one of the genuine Subaru ones (at least I think it's genuine) and I was contemplating trying it out.

I don't really like the a-pillar one either, but I'm not sure how the suby one will fit on/in the miata dash.

I've been planning on test fitting mine, but it's been pretty low on the "to-do" list.

it will look really really stupid and just as tacky as a-pillar gauges. Borrow one of those from someone and test it out, it looks terrible on a miata dash in real life.

fair points made, so what would you suggest as location for 3 gauges(I'd like to keep my vents for the colder days when i need heat!

DDMWorks Miata Radio Surrounds...

It's ~$100 new but I picked up mine for $50 shipped from the FS section here. One pops up every now and again on here if you keep your eye's peeled.

The gauge pods in the tombstone are too low to be useful for track driving... and the A-pillar mounts block your view in left hand corners (pulled mine out for that reason). I like the idea of a Subaru style gauge pod with the gauges up level with the OEM instruments but it's a "DIY" deal from what I can find. No one makes one...

My single a pillar pod blocks none of my view and it's easy to glance at. Anything screwed onto the dash would just look ghetto but if you were only using the car on the track it wouldn't matter much I suppose

All I can tell you is if it doesn't block your view into left hand corners on track you sit a lot differently in the car than I do. One of our local tracks has a long left hander about 190-200 degrees and the dual gauge pod totally blocked my view going into the corner.

Here's mine, kinda wish the gauges were angled toward me, but it works well for the most part. I'm thinking about swapping out my boost and oil pressure gauges for digital ones so their easier to glance at.

Maybe I'm just used to not seeing out of that corner because of my inspection sticker.... I payed attention to it this morning on my way into work and it does block a tiny bit of my view in that corner but not enough to affect my view of where I need to look.. Who knows lol

You learn to look through it. A roll cage puts a fairly substantial bar in the same spot.

I tried the radio area and never looked at the gauges. Then I screwed four gauges into the top of the gauge hood, two on each side, which worked until they all broke off (brittle plastic).

I finally gave up and went to a triple-gauge pod on the a-pillar. Wideband low, then boost, then oil temp. It was the best combination of function (I always kept my vents) and visibility I could come up with.

I have one of these guys from eBay. Seems to work fine.



I also had a 2 gauge pod for a while in the NB. I ended up pulling it out because it was too visible from outside the car. If the gauges were set lower it wouldn't be so bad, but it just screamed at me every time I looked at the car.

Ive been running an Autometer pod for a 94-04 Mustang. It took a little sanding work to get it to match the contour of the dash but it puts two gauges just a glance away. It matches the factory gauge hood pretty well too. I run oil temp and EGT in it. I have boost and AFR in the vent just below since I have safeguards in my MS3 that keep an eye on those. The only picture I have right now is in the stages of my build...
