Ever since riding in Mac929's car with his new VTA FM BOV, I've been wondering if mine is working correctly. He has a nice psssst when his BOV is working and mine doesn't sound anything like that. I have the 1st generation FM BOV and I plan on lubing it up and adjusting it tomorrow afternoon. Can anyone give me an idea where the BOV piston should be while the car is idling or how I should go about adjusting it?

Also, what shoud I use for lubrication? Keith from FM said to use Dry Lube?? I've been to two auto part stores and notbody has heard of this.

Isn't dry lube just graphite?

I'm not sure. I did see some kind of graphite lubrication. Maybe that's what he's talking about.

I don't think so, but I definitely don't have a pssssst sound.

I have the 1st generation FM BOV also, and I use silicone spray on it every once in awhile.

Mine is set so that at Idle the piston is just shy of opening, so that when the vacuum goes above that point it opens. If I squeeze the vacuum line, the piston travels further in. Best to have a pretty large, dedicated vacuum line coming off your intake manifold.

Yes, graphite is dry lube... I've used it on mine and my gf's VW's. The door locks would get a little stuck sometimes so you just put some graphite on the key and insert it into the lock a couple times which helps it turn more freely. Just make sure you don't squeeze the tube too hard, as it will spray everywhere, lol, since it's a very fine powder.
