So, I'm in the market for buying a gt2560r, and went on a quest to find the cheapest one that I could (new). Upon searching on Amazon, I found this:
Out of curiosity, I started searching Google to see if this really was a gt2560r, and basically found no solid guidance. Some people were saying t28r = gt28r, others were saying that it was journal-bearing instead of ball bearing, one guy was saying the exhaust housing was a different size... all over the place.

Also while searching for the answer I came accross this: The Nismo Shop; t28r
which is also a "t28r" selling for a similar price.

So, I've found two of these t28r turbos for almost the same price, which is about $100 cheaper than I've seen any gt28r(gt2560r) go for, which leads me to believe that there's something different.... yet, no matter how hard I try, I can't find anything that says there IS something different, with proof.


Anyone have the knowledge to be able to clear this up? Are they the same thing and one is cheaper because it's being sold specifically for Nissans? Any input would be appreciated for I make a purchase

Did you happen to see that both listings specifically say in the description that they're GT2560R turbos?

I did! I've also seen hundreds of other turbos say that they're something they're actually not. The reason for this thread wasn't "Hey guys, I can't read these pages, so will you please do it for me?", it was because I find it weird that every place I find that's selling them as "T28R"s is selling them for significantly less than any site selling them as "GT28R"s or "GT2560R"s, and couldn't find anything outside of those pages that said they are the same thing as a gt2560r.

it also looks like the compressor housing was cast in a poorly made plaster negative of a real garrett compressor housing.

If there was only some way to find out the specs of a turbo! They are all a mystery until you install them and see how well they spool and output.

The S15 was indeed fitted with a GT2560 but with a Nissan specific compressor housing

So if you bought this you would need the Nissan 3 bolt and 2 bolt compressor adaptors to silicone pipe. These are not cheap unles you fabricate them yourself

I'll probably just go ahead and order via FRSport or some other other site I know is legit, I don't have an extra grand to drop if I buy one of these and they turn out to be ****

So don't spend good money buying **** parts of dubious origin.

Drink your coffee black instead of buying a $4 lattè every day and put that money into a good turbo from a known source: Trackspeed Engineering - Garrett GT2560R

Bam! That's only 25 lattès or 4 nights worth of food and drinks more than whatever the hell you were looking at, and Trackspeed will send you a genuine Garrett. If he does not, I'll punch him for you next time I see him

If you want to try something dubious thats actually cheap, try this: *ISIS T25/T28 Replacement Turbo - Nissan SR20DET - Enjuku Racing Parts, LLC

Guess what, we have guys here on the forum who have purchased this $300 turbo and had acceptable results. Just remember, its a $300 journal bearing turbo so don't expect the world. Plenty of Nissan guys out there who have used this one as well. Google will help you find more info in this regard.

The other option is to WAIT UNTIL YOU CAN DO IT RIGHT rather than buying parts twice. There is a reason my "build" has been going for a year and I still don't have forced induction on my car.

I can do it "right" now, just figured I'd try and save myself a little money and see if these were legit. If they're not, I'll buy a legit one from somewhere I know is reputable like I said, not buy a $300 churbo.

Why does everyone on this forum read like 30% of a thread and then fill in the rest with assumptions before going off on a huge rant about stuff that's irrelevant to the topic or has already been covered earlier in the thread?

Probably lack of coffee and 3 hours of sleep causing my snark, plus you posted links to what others have pointed out is a dubious looking $850 turbo. I was simply pointing out that for another $100 you can have the real deal from a known quantity/quality vendor. Saving $100 on something that's "probably legit" getting burned, dealing with the return hassle and then getting denied a refund after they claim you attempted to install it, etc just isn't worth it to me personally. Then again you might value your time differently than I do. I mean, its all up to you. Send your money wherever you like as its your decision in the end. I ain't even mad doe

This. Learned my lesson with Doap Parts. Never did get those ACL bearings, but all-in-all it was a relatively cheap lesson to learn. When I'm ready to build my motor I'll just get them from Trackspeed.
