Default I must be missing something about the USB to Serial Adapters

Is there something special about the serial to usb adapter/convertors used for wideband/MS/e-manage functions? I mean, I hear about them being $40+, so it has to be something more than this:

Or is it true that I could use the old one I have that I got for my old Palm IIIc docking station?

I am using the Belkin F5U409 USB Serial Adaptor. It is working with Window XP and 2000 Pro.

"If you want to waste time and toss away $15, this is the product for you."
- One of the reviews of that adapter.:gay:

I had an immediate need when I got mine, so I couldn't wait for shipping. I purchased a Dynex brand unit from bestbuy. I want to say it was $30. It works fine, the only hurdle was getting the correct drivers from the dynex website.

i bought my junx for my lc-1 from radioshack. All-in-all they do the same thing, just as long as you have the correct drivers.

It's like a 6' Monster Cable HDMI cable for $199 vs. a 15' no-name brand for $25

I'm sure you knew I would respond to that.

I am NOT a Monster fan, and do not carry their products, however a $200 Monster HDMI will work. A $25 5M generic, ah well, it's pot-luck.

I have monster RCAs in my car. They're the only kind that solved the whine and not because they were spendy. they were the only 6-channels-through-one-shield ones I could find. total cable is like .25 inches in diameter and I love it. 6 rcas is a lot to run individually.

I thought the whole USB-serial thing was iffy to begin with no matter how much it costs?

I'm still itchin to try out my bluetooth to serial adapter
