Let the games begin!!! My turbo build.
I am for the first time in my life building a car. Not much different than your first finger painting, or the first time you had sex (in my case both were around the same time)
with that said I am SURE i will make a few mistakes, in fact I already have. Got a little excited Fu**3d around and bought a turbo from this guy named Angel Ruiz out of Santa Rosa. He was the one that told me the kit was made for the 1.6 and was a good kit. THINKING i had asked the right questions, turned out i didn't. Got taken (i will find the dude), but will think of this as a paid lesson for now. bought a few things on eBay..OBX stuff, suspension from some unknown company and Upgraded Clutches (eBay again). ALL MISTAKES I'M SURE SOME OF YOU ARE ALREADY TRYING TO BAN ME FOR MAKING. but its too late, i already did it, so i must live with my choices. I decided to take this and learn how to at the very least, learn how to assemble a turbo car.

Ignorance is OK as long as you work to get rid of it once you know it exists. I will list ALL the thing I have and things I intend to purchase this weekend |
Make a list of all the parts you have so far.
Make a list of your goals for the car. Post pics of parts and car. |

Originally i didn't want a miata. But this crack head was offering me this car for $300. i couldnt pass up an opportunity to just smash something so I bought it.

fixed the dents replaced the roof (it had more holes than a brothel), bought a kit (only because it was cheaper than buying new bumpers), put some gas in it and was off!!!!!!!! At the time I was working for earl Schieb so i figured "why not just paint it, wont cost me more than $50. So i did. now the car was looking pretty ok and I had to admit is was fun to drive. Im 6 ft 220 lbs, so although fun, not really comfortable. I never really drove it. i let a friend drive it for almost a year, then she broke it. With the motor not passing smog I decided to pull it out and put another one in....here is where it gets nuts.

Started to want to make it look brand new, so i bought a bunch of $hit. Somewhere in there my cousin says "lets put a turbo on it!" I'm a "look good" man, so i knew NOTHING about turbos but FK it, lets go for it. and that brings me here. i will be installing some of the stuff this weekend and getting in some stuff also, some of you need to stop laughing, this could work..maybe, but if it doesn't, maybe my post will become a sticky for the noobs that want a turbo. MAYBE i just might become a HERO..only time can tell my friend, only time can tell.

The motor is build related, as well as the clutch. Everything else= |
That clutch looks like a toy you would get from a McDonalds happy meal. Actually, almost everything in all those pictures does.

Keep on keep'n on.
Even if you don't use the cookie cutter parts for your build. Even if you cheap out the first and second time around and buy parts multiple times to get them right or justify the cost. There is still a chance you might have a lot of fun and meet some nice folk along the way. You know at the very least you're gonna get made fun of. That's Miata. Good luck with the build. |

lol hayabusa. now it all makes sense
|
I dont care for the body kit, but if you turbo the car in a non-shitty way, youre cool with me.
As for that clutch, I think Im going to try one like that on my turbo D16. If it doesnt work, no big loss. |

Well it's good you're here to learn. If you search the internet about turbos or racing you will find yourself right back here. There is A LOT of information on this site.
With that said. This site is mostly function over form. You can do shit that people don't like and they will hate on it. If you do a good job though and aren't an asshat you'll get some respect and people will still help you as long as you don't do stupid shit. I'm cool with you doing stupid shit though. Make sure you take lots of pictures and document stupidity if you choose to take this road.

Nice crank pulley. It probably won't blow up your motor.

Edit for op's sake. I'm not hating and not like these guys if you can build it cheap more power to you just don't cut corners |

You mean probably will? Cause any time you remove a harmonic balancer the motor just wants to rattle itself to pieces...and considering we have nice brittle oil pump gears Idk if that's a bet I'd want to gamble on
You probably just totally taught me something. |
Even our dinky ones with just a thick rubberband does wonders for harmonics expecially compared to no damper at all.
