Default My DIY build. help, thoughts?

Okay so I'm on my third sports car i guess you could say, a 91 one owner miata. With me being the second of course. I had a 1990 300zx and a 1990 Rx-7. Both non-turbo unfortunately. Ive been on this board and the miata forum board for a few months now doing research on turbocharging. I am just now, however, beginning to make some extra money to make this project feasible. I started putting together a parts list of things i would need to keep my engine safe and run a reasonable boost level, say 9-13 psi. I have performed all routine maintenance and a leakdown/compression check

T25 Turbo kit rated from 5-21 psi for 1.5-2.8L applications
Corksport FMIC
Custom Intercooler piping
Custom Downpipe
Flyin Miata Oil return lines
SS turbo manifold
1.8 injectors

My main question is about the electronics. What exactly do i need to control/monitor this system?

Thanks guys
Kyle

Megasquirt.

but you're not running 9-13psi on 1.8 injectors alone. either get bigger injectors or an AFPR(stupid decision since you'd have an MS and could just get bigger injectors)

So basically the emanage blue was what i was looking at originally. My only concern with that was once i have the kit installed can i take it and have it dyno tuned with no special tools of my own?

If 300 dollars is 1/3rd of your budget, you should re-evaluate whether or not your really ready to take this plunge.

You really need to have a sitdown session and do some informed cost shopping. It sounds like your trying to do this on the cheap, but a corksport radiator, no mention of what kind of t25, and a FM oil return, but no feed line?

So an emanage blue would be able to control larger injectors and be dyno tunable?

so you plan on boosing a miata for $900? good luck, you need fabrication skills, not advice

damn im late, lol

build your own MS, there are step by step instructions so you cant really screw up...if you have the time to do it
if not, pay someone to build you one...still cheap and very capable
do you have to pass emission? do you have ac?
if both are no, run it standalone...

You're implying that you're going to spend $700 on an MS. If that's the case, you're only looking at the MSPNP option. What I think Paul was suggesting was to build one yourself. Many in this forum have done that. If you're not an expert on electronics you could have someone else (read braineack or cjernigan) build one for you.

When I first turboed my car I asked cjernigan to build me one (I'm mechanically and electronically challenged ) and I couldn't be more satisfied with the results. Of course it did not cost me $700.

Also check the for sale section; once in a while someone sells one that will fit your needs.

BTW, I also agree with Paul's statement regarding the injector size; you're going to need bigger injectors!

Good luck with your project.

Lets break it down:
  • T25 Turbo kit rated from 5-21 psi for 1.5-2.8L applications

WTF is this ****? Did you copy this from a turbo specialties kit? You have the option of any of the factory T25s (50-100ish) or the GT25xx series (out of your range probably).
  • Corksport FMIC

If your really on a budget then why are you buying this? The chinacoolers are considerably cheaper, hell I'm selling my used one in the next week or so. (30 used- 100 new)
  • Flyin Miata Oil return lines

Where is your feed line? If you source things out from JGStools, etc, you may find a better price the FM.

Since your original question was what do you need to control and monitor that system, I would include a WB sensor in your budget.

Of course, there are other parts missing; I don't see any WG or BOV in there for example.
