Hi Guys.
A simple question. Do I keep it or lose it?
At the moment the air con pump gets in my way for my boost pipes and it would make life much easier to remove it. However I feel mlike im taking a feature away from the car that its supposed to havfe. What do you think?

I snapped 1 of the a/c lines trying to bend them out of the way to make space for the turbo pipes that why im considering it. I do feel that I should keep it but still not sure if its really needed been a soft top.

We dont get the glorious weather you get over in the US so cold air is not to much of a priority. However on the days we do get it hot it is nice.

Ditch it. You'll be glad you lost 35lbs, gained airflow to the radiator, and freed some space under the hood. I pulled mine this past Spring for my turbo install and did not miss it over the Summer.

depends where you live IMO and just your personal tolerance for heat/humidity. I'm from Ohio and if I still lived there, I'd be ok with ditching it. Florida...not so much

You live in the UK, I cannot see you really needing it. Honestly the few days of the year you think you want it, you can just get into boost to cool you down.

I live in the same area as Braineack and ditched my A/C. Only time I miss it is when it rains heavy and windows fog up - defogging without A/C is just slower.

In the summer, it's only a problem when I'm stuck in traffic. So I don't get stuck in traffic.

I decided that if i needed the AC that day, I'd rather drive something else that day.

LOL very true. I will ditch it then.

At least then I will be able to get all my pipes on with lots of space to move around. I spent the last few days bending pipes desperatly trying to figure out how to get a 2.5" stainless pipe through the mess that is the a/c pump.

2.5" fits fine depending on your turbo orientation. What setup are you running? When my turbo outlet was clocked up, I was able to come straight down in front of the a/c compressor and clear it with ease.


Never had rubbing issues or anything to complain about and it was ***** easy to make. It was essentially 2x 90 degree L pipes and one 90 degree coupler. That's it. The outlet came right into the mouth of the car and joined the intercooler perfectly.

I hardly use my a/c, but I will never get rid of it because during that rare chance I use it, I'm couldn't be happier to have it.

Keep it.

I removed the aircon from my '92 when I lived in southern California, and never missed it. But as soon as I moved to place that had actual weather (eg: rain) I really wished I'd kept it for the de-misting function.

It does make routing the intercooler pipes slightly more difficult, but it's far from impossible.

I will wait for my new 45 degree pipe to come and see how the pipes fit. If it fits ok with the a/c still on then it can stay.
Viperormiata I had it setup pretty much like you had it but the pipe was catching the bonnet and rubbing paint off and lifting the bonnet slightly. I wanted to route it down as im using a T28 from a Nissan 200sx and the compressor outlet is really crap and doesnt allow for easy pipe fabrication due to the bend in it.

Throw some pics up of what you're working with. We may be able to collaborate for a more reasonable solution.

Trust me, even if you don't use the a/c often, you'll really, really miss it during those times when you need it. (depending on location and your environment)

if its your DD then keep it, if its a track car then less is more

Its not a DD car but neither is it a track car. I use it in the summer months with occasional winter use. Im thinking keep it if the pipes fit with the 45 degree bend but if not I may lose it as its as tight as hell by the side or bottom of the a/c pump to get a 2.5" pipe. I will see if I have some pics of how it was and edit this post to add them if I find them.
