My car smells like a boat (Turbo Oil Advice)
So, I hooked up my freshly rebuilt T25 with a 4AN feed with the pop rivot restrictor, and a 10AN return straight down at 6:00. Between gears and on decel however, I'm getting a strong smell of burning oil and some smoke. Little puff between gears you have to be behind the car to see, more severe in boost.
I called gpopshop today, and they suggested I buy a tighter restrictor, or preferably change to 3AN, speaking about flow versus pressure etc. They also suggested making sure my pcv was good. I'm running the metal protege one, though it does leak a little if I personally blow through it. very little though. I did consider replacing the little rubber grommet it sits in though.
First though, I'm going to run a restrictor. So my first question:
Is a 1mm (0.03937") restrictor too small for a Journal Bearing T25? I know turbos require very little oil, I just am looking at the big disclaimer on the checlout page that says "FOR USE IN BALL BEARING TURBOS ONLY"

I ran a .061" restrictor with 4AN line on my GT3271 journal bearing turbo, 12AN Drain line that dumped above the oil level in the pan. Never had a problem*. I also ran it unrestricted at first and also never had a problem.
*After 5 years, it did in fact have a bearing failure, but I was pushing the turbo to choke flow so I think it was inevitable that eventually it was going to wear out the turbo.

How would you suggest doing this? I haven't come up with anything I thought would be more secure than the metal shoved in the rubber gromet. Welding a fitting to it would certainly be more secure, but wouldn't exactly be easy.

For testing, I would run a hose from the valve cover to a plastic bottle (make shift catch-can). Now the piece of hose coming off the intake manifold, remove the pcv and plug the hose with a bolt. Now they are separated and you can also tell if there anything coming out of the valve cover going into the bottle. Drive the car and see if anything changes from before.

I have also found a honda valve that goes to the brake booster is a one way valve that holds @50psi. People use it in place of pcv for turbo cars.

With PCV to a bottle, pulled first, lots of smoke. So it's not blow by. Though when I free-revved the car I could see a little smoke coming from the breather filter on the driver's side of the valve cover.
So looks like a smaller restricter is the next step.
