Default Can I drive it carefully?

I have been lurking here getting educated and have put a small turbo on my 90. It is from an Eclipse hooked to a SAAB intercooler with IC pipes over the top of a lowered rad etc.. I will post a pic later. Anyway I got it running on the weekend and it screams! The car is up on jacks and not driveable yet, needs body work. My plan is to build a MS and control timming etc with that. Question is... Can I drive it carefully for test drives until the MS is done if I retard timing, keep off the boost etc??? Thanks in advance!

as long as you have enough fuel, and you retard the base timing a bit.

Ok I have a set of tan tops from a 1.8 so I could install those and set the timing back manually. Thanks alot.

Do you have a wideband O2 sensor?

You could always wire the wastegate open and drive it around NA with no worries. Probably would make tracking down any MS issues easier as well.

If you want to *really* be cautious, you can disconnect the rod which operates the wastegate, resulting in zero boost. But for now, if you accidentally hit 2 or 3 PSI it's not going to kill you.

Braineack- I have to disagree on one point. You're putting in way too much Triple Sec. I prefer about a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio of Tequila to Triple Sec, and then just a splash of orange juice. And try topping off with a float of Grand Marnier after the pour. Delightful.

OK wire the gate open makes sense and retard timing just to be safe. Will the stock ECU control the Tan tops 1.8 injectors?? In other words will they keep the af ratio correct or should I just leave them out until I get squirting? And no I do not have a wide band O2 yet, I plan to do that along with the MS. Thanks

It's my recipe and I like it. I sometimes substitute orange liqueur and throw in a dash of brandy. However this one, to me, is always the best.

If you wire the wastegate open, no need to retard timing as you'll see no boost, and even if you are going to run very low boost, you may not have to retard much, if any, considering that you are running an IC. Bigger concern would be to make sure you have enough fuel if you plan on boosting.

You should be able to stick the 1.8 injectors in without any problems. The 1.6 ecu can handle them just fine.

Alright that is great. You guys are the most amazing source of info! My next concern is becoming addicted to the boost. Somebody here said it is worse than crack! After hearing the little guy whine Sunday it kind of grows on me and I havent even driven it yet!
