i think i shattered my oil pump gears today. car was breaking the tires loose too easily in 2nd and bouncing off the rev limiter. 30 secs later i noticed i had no oil pressure.

so the question(without having to reread this whole thread) is someone selling these billet oil pump gears?

"selling" implies present tense... so no. not yet. once they're measured and drawn up, we can get them made up. then yeah I guess.

Of course! Hell, this is your thread. I'm just trying to help move it along. I'll measure whatever set I get, but can't guarantee I can call in favors for measuing multiple sets. I agree the failure is not going to be attributed to wear, but if we were going to bother to do this, might as well do the best that we can. I'll watch for them next week. Make sure they go to my attention.

Stein, hope i don't mislead everyone who reads this, but theoretically, would it be better to have slightly more clearance then less if the material is of superior quality to the OEM ones. I just can't picture it in my mind how a few macrometers would contribute to any damage. I guess what I'm saying is the wear on the gears I sent to Loki may not be an issue for us, not even remotely, they were pulled out of a running motor with good OP when pulled. The gears worked, now we replace them with a much better alloy, they should be golden, no? (not actually golden, figure of speach, lol)
Am i thinking clearly or just deeply?

I really don't think it will matter. As you said, wear isn't the problem, shattering is. So, as long as what you have made good pressure, whatever we end up with will duplicate that. Measurements are a bit tougher to take, as you are trying to determine if the line is where it "is" or "should be" with regard to meausing where the gear mesh stops and starts on each gear.

So long as it fits our crank nose what diff does the gear mesh make. I would use a standard pump mesh and machine the rest to work withing our dimensions. This might prove simpler than replicating a exact mesh pattern.

Measurements are done. I need to hand draw an engineering drawing so that the measurements make sense so y8s can model them. I will work on it this weekend, scan them and send them on Monday.

Got your email. It will be very clear. Dimensions came out pretty accurate tooth to tooth, most less than .001" difference so I feel good about them. Some differences in the tip radius (up to .007"), but they are noncontact anyway, so should be good to go. You may have to do a bit of blending/adjusting the tips but should work fine. There are really only two radiuses, the tips of each tooth and one full radius for the root. They are not tangent so there is a fully little hook where they meet but that is the way they are designed and I am not about to change them.

John while your have them do you want to do some hardness testing on them? Ideally a few points on the surface and then a few along the depth (well have to cut them in half for this)
