Default Help me identify this setup.

This is my first post here and I'm glad to have spent the last several months reading and searching throughout the forum. I'm not too new in the miata world, but I'm new to the forced induction miata world. I sold my 96 a couple years ago and I have regretted it ever since. So now I going to fix that and get another miata. This time around it looks like an 01 or an 02. I've been on the hunt for decent used one for a few months now and I came across one I want to buy. It appears like a decent car, but I am having some trouble identifying which turbo kit is on the car. If anyone can give me any ideas or details about this setup it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Certainly looks "Different", and I mean that in a good way.

From the limited view of the manifold from your pics and from what looks to be a custom water-to-air IC setup, I'd say it's probably a custom setup. Blue thing by the passenger headlight looks kinda like an older vortech fpr?, but hard to tell from the pic.

it's a base model car... and I think that's the laminova air/water intercooler. also looks like an AFPR and thus a conversion to returnless fuel system?

The thing you posted in the first pic is a air-water intercooler. I can't tell if it's a certain kit or not, looks pretty custom to me.

Thanks for the quick replies. Looks like I have a few things to keep researching, but overall it seems to be an intersting platform to start with.

No, it's not my car yet. The guy who does own it has no idea what setup it is or at least that's what I'm being told. I'm in the market and I really like this particular car and am going today to try and negotiate a fair price for it.

Looks like a little homebrew magic with a Water to Air charge cooler action i'd say.... Pretty cool actually I have not seen that kinda setup in our cars yet.

When I go back up there I will bring a camera and snap some better pictures of it. I'm primarily interested because of the attention to detail that was used when the kit was installed.

sometimes attention to detail during the install is more important than a name brand kit. definitely get us those pictures... particularly of the turbo and manifold if you can.

Mani is definitely stainless from what I can see. It appears to be some sort of bottom mount mani and there isn't anyone mass producing stainless bottom mounts for the miata. Except maybe bells new tubular beast but I doubt that is what is on this car.
I'm more interested in what engine management it is running with that VTA BOV.

I wasn't able to get any additional pictures of it. But the manifold is SS and the rest of the setup is mounted underneath of it. I made an offer on it and I will find out sometime this week if we can close the deal on it. Once it's mine I will definitely be posting some better pictures of it so I can identify each component of it. Thanks for all your replies and if there's any other advice you all can give me before I finalize the deal on this it would be appreciated. Just all the replies to this thread have been helpful to me in this decision.

I closed the deal tonight on this car. Here's a couple of the top of the manifold. I'm going to inspect everything further this weekend and start a list of all the parts. Runs great and I can't wait until I can push it hard. So any other thoughts on what this might be?

So far all I've been able to figure out is that it's just a simple low boost setup. The turbo is some type of Garrett and I haven't been able to get the car up in the air to see it any closer. Next to impossible to see down there from the topside. The liquid intercooler is a custom turbonetics setup. The injectors are that light purple/violet color so I'm assuming their stock. The vortech super fmu is being used with a return style fuel system. Not sure if it's the stock pump or something different yet though. Big question is, what do I do next to make it faster....
