Default question/discussion for you turbo wizards

Finally joined the dark side. Have been in discussions with many of you over on M.net previously. I wanted to bring up a question/discussion here to tap into all the knowledge. For those of you that don't know my background:

Military guy who used to work as a mechanic prior to the Army. Have a decent amount of experience with most things automotive. Handful of motor swaps (2 rebuilds) however I had never messed around with turboing a car or tuning it. I purchased a 01 Miata LS with sport susp. last year. Upgraded the clutch and decided on the lowest price turbo kit I could find to get my foot in the door. Shanghai S kit was purchased and installed. Turbo blew apart(literally pieces of metal in drain hose) Replaced turbo. Became more comfortable with the system and how it works as I went. Installed a over the radiator A/A intercooler. Installed a FM exhaust from turbo back. Other minor upgrades/mods were made along the way. I am pretty happy with where this car is now and the drivability/reliability. (ran a 8.979 1/8th mile...approx. 13.9 1/4).

It has been preached about(rightly so) of the limitations of the stock injectors and piggybacks. I understand this limitation fully as I am a user of both. Currently running a voodoo box. However it has been stated that the stock injectors are limited to 6psi (most recently/adamantly by triple88a) Tthis leads me to my question/concern:

I know the 01 has 265 cc injectors so a bit more flow than previous years and a slightly higher fuel pressure. I am running 8psi exactly(maybe 8.1ish with a quick boost spike to 9psi immediately before) So at 8 psi I am seeing 12.2 AFR at rev limiter. If I drop one click on my MCB I run about 7.5ish psi and AFR are around 11.8-12.0 at rev limiter. Do I have an anomaly here? Are you more or less referring to earlier years for 6psi limitation?

To be clear I am not championing piggybacks in the slightest. However for me it seems to be working out ok. I have about 2500 miles on the system with no issues so far.

In other news. I have purchased a 99 Miata and have a build thread started on m.net. the only two goals are sub 8 seconds in the 1/8th mile and a budget limit of 6k. the $6k has to include everything from the price of the car to the oil filter to the turbo. This car will be turboed as well with a standalone without a doubt. So far the car has been purchased and I am working through all the conceivable maintenance I can do. budget is currently at $2348 spent as I just sold the windblocker for $40 bucks. Car is loosing weight as well. Currently at 2180lbs.

Love the BRG color.

Maybe try posting here:

Also, people prefer pictures over words and usually more pics = more feedback.
