Hey guys. Im in the middle of my FMII install. On the little coolant block that sits on the side of the throttle body/intake manifold I managed to break off one of the bolts on the inside of it. I really really dont want to have to pull the whole intake manifold off to drill it out.

I read that this coolant is used by the idle air control valve to change rpm depending on the temp of the coolant. Considering im running megasquirt for my idle, can I just bypass this coolant route completely?

I dont want any leaks from a bolt missing.

Assuming you have a 1.6 (90-93) car:

You have two idle valves. The one under the throttle body is the one that's under ECU control, and the one that's important.

The one on the side of the intake manifold facing the head is a simple thermostatic valve, used to provide a little extra air on cold mornings. Many of us, myself included, have removed this valve and/or bypassed the lines to it with little to no ill effect. It may be a problem if you live in Nome, Alaska and want to drive the car in January, but chances are you'll be fine without it.

The one facing the head is the small 4 bolt piece that has two hoses running to it yes? The thing at the lower side of of the manifold in this pic with the tubes https://i.imgur.com/Z6nBa9u.jpg

Sounds like its okay to bypass. Do I just take the hoses that fed into it, and just make them a loop?

the device on the IM is called an AIR valve; it's not an idle valve.


you can either just run a line directly from runner #1 on the IM directly to the thermostat housing, or cop both spots.

youre basically removing the idle speed valve and the air valve completely from the coolant flow.
