Holy ****, looks like #3 con rod was about to detonate. In the assembled shot, you can see #3 piston sitting low.

On the plus side, I don't see any indication of detonation. I guess I was seeing carbon buildup w/ the boreoscope, not pitting after all.

A buddy of mine (who builds bike motors) told me to run it and track down the noise w/ a stethescope, good thing I didn't

It takes a lot of pressure on top of a piston to do that. Congrats You saved your block and possibly your crank and head. Now you get to have forged rods.

Ok, will do.

Maybe this is the excuse I've been looking for to increase the bore.

Lol, I told my wife before the tear-down that if I have an intact bent rod that it's going on the wall.

They look ok to me, but what do I know.

Interesting finds:
-Crazy runout on the thrust bearing
-Flange on the crank timing gear is missing a chunk (probably unrelated)
-Pistons and rings look good, no damage that I can see

I'm seriously considering getting a pro to build the bottom end, this isn't the area where I want to learn by mistakes.

In order, cylinders 1 - 4:
