So, I want to start putting together some pieces for eventually boosting my 95 miata.

I have low funds and like making stuff. If I have the tools, I will take the diy path (or sometimes buy the tools)
I try to make anything I can if the tools cost about as much as the complete product.

With that said, I have seen a kit with a flanges and some bends for a log manifold, unwelded.
But I can't recall what the company was called. I think the website also had bare flanges.
Any ideas on the company that made these?

Second part of the question, will mig welding hold up on a turbo manifold, everything that mentions the welding on manifolds, it is tig welded. Not sure if the different welds will hold up to the extreme heat cycling.

Thought it was someone different mentioned ( cheaper than jgs? maybe an older post I saw though )
But I have heard about them quite a few times from people that turbo KA motors.

Trying to stay super low on budget, most of my money will be dedicated to MS probably one of the brain built ones.

Might do a little more research on cheap cast manifolds, or look into doing a full fab on a pre made flange.

For the Mani, you can find a used cast FM or begi for pretty cheap. Then DIY around that.

If he considers the jgs kit expensive then a used begi/fm is going to be ultra expensive. Frankly this kind of extreme penny pinching really surprises me when modifying cars.
I guess I just don't get it.
Maye its because I hang out with slighly higher end car owners and see the kind of money exchanging hands regularly, I dunno. Broke people have no business modifying cars. And I'm not a big spender by any means.

Oh well. At least you're smart enough to go MS instead of band aids

I actually miss the wicked-cheap builds we used to see once in a while. I liked the creativity. $200 MS1, DIY manifold made from a hacked up stocker, intercooler from a junkyard mitsu, all held together with duct-tape and zip ties. Now a begi or FM manifold is considered "entry level".

I do cheap, I don't do ghetto.

Almost all my spare money goes into my car, but I still don't have much to spend. I get to spend maybe $100-200 a month. So I probably won't have all the parts to be boosted until winter probably.

I might try an ebay cast mani, read through the underdog sunburst build earlier. Inspiring cheapness.

I may like slammed cars, and drifting ( oh no.... there goes the neighborhood )

But doing something stupid on the engine is the last thing I want. Especially something that can turn the motor into scrap iron.

Edit: not a 1.6, guess the 1.8 gets no cheap cast mani love..... Time to research tubing....

You are correct. No cheap mani love for us :/ seems nobody is getting rid of their fm/BEGI log manifolds for cheap either. Been keeping my eye on the classifieds for weeks

The one project thats in my mind is the one that used 2 giant 4x4" square plates as flanges for the manifold and the downpipe. Man those were epic days.

It is surprising that you can buy an ebay cast 1.6 to cover only 3 years' worth of production cars, yet you can't buy one to cover the other 10 years' worth. Just never made sense to me why "someone" never made one. I don't know who "someone" is but they must be out there.

Yes, there are a lot of Hondas out there but we have 1.5 million Miatas, the most raced car in existence, so it's not an insignificant quantity.

I wonder that the procedure is to contact the current 1.6 cast vendors and commission a 1.8 to be built. I'd guess they would want an order for 100 or something to start.

It boggles my mind to frequently see how cheap some of these honda parts are. Just the other day I saw a B series turbo manifold for $30.

Id definitely be on board for a tacotaco 1.8 cast manifold
