Default Oil restrictor for my turbo?

Ok so I've posted before about smoking out the tailpipe and stuff, it also smoked on the exhaust side of the turbo after driving it for a little while, I'm starting to think I need a restrictor for the oil feed.

I was told before that i dont need one that it has a built in one, its a td05-16g turbo bought off ebay, running a -4AN line directly into it, no restrictor not using a bango fitting or anything..

Does anyone know for sure or not if that turbo needs an oil restrictor or not or where i can find out if it needs one? Also if it does, what size would it need? Thanks

Ok, I just put in a 1/8" pop rivet, it seemed to stop the smoking, though i just let it warm up and idle and revved it a little bit, even then though it was smoking some at the turbo..

When i took off the oil feed line and the fitting it attached to, the oil was pooled up all the way to the threads so i couldnt see anything hardly

Somethign that concerned me though, i heard what sounded like a rattlingish sound coming from the drivers side of the engine bay, couldnt tell if it was the turbo or not, could it possibly be starved for oil and grinding or something? or maybe its just something else?

that's a bit scary. My suggestion is always to just run a -3AN line. Never had problems with seals but I did with -4AN.

Well, let's see...there was no noise before you put in the pop rivet. After installing it you hear a "rattlingish" noise coming from that side of the car, and the turbo you're using is not a ball-bearing, but a sleeve/journal bearing CHRA...yeah, I'd not be using a rivet at this point.

But I can't see/hear your car, so what do I know. But I've never heard of feeding one of those older Mitsubishi turbos with anything less than -3AN.

Just for ***** and giggles, how's your driver's side cam cover breather routed?

I dont know if it was making that noise or not before, i never noticed it but its very faint, the breather is routed to the intake of the turbo..

If thats not the problem, any ideas what else it could be? Usually when its not in there and i drive it, it smoke out the exhaust every once in a while and smoke comes off the exhaust side of the turbo, even when not in boost

just talked to a guy from atp turbo and he swears that they always run a -3an supply line and a .035 restrictor with t25's....... that seems like oil starving city to me............

i have yet to start it up but i have a '92 with a t25 that i feed from the block port with a -6an then reduce it down to -4an at the turbo and have the 1/8 pop rivet trick in place. i hope i don't run into oil starvation...........

Interesting.. i wonder how the oiling needs for that compares to my 16g..

Has anyone ever or currently run the 16g that could shed some insight on if i need a restrictor or not? or maybe need to use a bango bolt and fitting?

Well I took it back apart to have a look at it.. It appears it already has a built-in restrictor, though i dont know if it restricts enough.. but anyways as we were putting it back together withought the rivet in to give it a try, my neighbor stripped the stupid fitting.. so uhh.. i need a new one before i can drive my car any

Anyone know right off hand what size the fitting side is that goes into the turbo? am i going to have to order it or will a parts store or lowes have it?
