I am in the final stages of my FM II install but I can't seem to figure out where to connect my BOV. I am out of T connectors so I can't splice into another line. There is an unused port on the top of the intake manifold that points to the drivers side of the car. Can I use this or do I need to find somewhere else to source this signal? This is on a 99 by the way. Thanks!

so I can use that port? It has a cover over it right now and doesn't go anywhere. I just don't want to end up plugging it in to something that doesn't have a signal.

yep. it's a good spot for it.


the port is used for cruise control iirc. it goes directly into the manifold, which is where you want your source from.

SUCCESS! She starts and runs. There is one issue I want your feedback on. For some reason the AC seems like it is on all the time now. I went out for a short drive and checked under the hood to make sure nothing was leaking and noticed the lower AC pipe that comes out of the firewall was iced over on the outside. I didn't run the AC while I was on my drive and didn't turn on any accessories. Is something wrong or does this happen normally and I just never noticed?

is the fitting leaking? or leaked. that's not normal cant think of a reason whyd it would happen.

check for a short to ground on the A/C clutch wiring. It's possible that the wire got caught under something during your install and is grounded out. If it were a failed switch then it would turn off when the temp get's below a certain level before icing over. The other possibility is the A/C clutch itself has seized somehow.

where might I find the wiring for this? It definitely seems like something is wrong with the A/C as it turns on even when at idle. Is it possible I tapped into the wrong wire in the diagnostics port when connecting the electronic boost controller?

DOH!!! It just hit me what is wrong. When I was taking everything off the car, the bolt that tensions the A/C belt over torqued and broke. I just realized I never replaced this bolt when I put it back together. I am not sure if this would cause the problem, but it is a good place to start.

The A/C compressor is turned on via a an electric clutch behind the pulley. The bolt that tensions the belt would not likely cause this to engage, though it may be defeating it mechanically.

If the bolt doesn't bit it and you have to troubleshoot electronically, the clutch is controlled by the A/C relay. If a short is what's causing the system to come on, then we're looking at the control wire for this relay. It's a Blue/Black wire that goes from the A/C Relay (which is behind the left headlight) back through the firewall on the driver's side, to the ECU at position 1S.

Having the correct wiring diagram may be helpful: http://www.madracki.com/miata/images...g/2000wire.pdf (it's for a 2000, but this is the official Mazda diagram. The only online version for th '99 is the Haynes. This one is better as it gives physical locations for everything.)

is there a way I can just disconnect the A/C? Something is definitely shorting or not connected right as the air is COLD as soon as I turn on the fan, and I can hear the A/C pump running from inside the car when I have the key turned on. HELP!!

Just remove the cable from the compressor. Should be somewhere right behind your drivers side headlight. (single wire)

yeah, I found that. good news is that seemed to fix the problem, but I still don't know what the root cause is... going to have to dig deeper into this one.
