Local Auto Stone had some K&Ns but none for me.
They had a Spectre ricer cone filter with a narrower neck - mine is larger than the pipe so it has a coupler stuffed in it so it can fit the curved pipe
Still, I rather get an oval one.
I'm including the link to K&N in case somebody follows in my stumbling foot steps. I still have to visit a friend who has some silicone elbows I might "borrow" before I order stuff.

Their web site (or me) is kind of screwy but right now I'm leaning toward a cone, tapered and with an offset. This means that it will duck past the headlight motor and angle toward the left/front corner.
The ricer cone that's on there now measures roughly 6 at the base and 5 height
More guessing is required but the likely candidates are p/n SN-2540 SN-2550 and SN-2560

It should strategically avoid the headlight motor and spill toward the left front corner to still have decent surface area.

Ok so I have to ask: why that shape and size? does a large oval filter flow so much more than a compact cone that its beneficial to go big and oval just to stuff it in there?
I notice both FM and BEGi use the huge oval shaped ones in most their kits

K&N's on trucks and other domestic large displacement shitboxes are much much bigger than the one on my miata currently.
I guess you want to go as big as you can go just so don't have any bottleneck there at all.
