Aftermarket FPR on OEM Fuel Rail

Aftermarket FPR on OEM Fuel Rail
I bought an aftermarket FPR to get myself a little more headroom for fuel. In the past I've always had a fuel rail to go along with it. I know you can buy a fuel rail adapter, but wasn't sure how cheap (no ecu) FI kits handled it.
Can you just add the second FPR after the OEM one? Can I drill out (gut) the OEM FPR to basically use it as an adapter? Or should I just stop being a cheapass and buy an adapter or fuel rail? Just looking for the cheapest/quickest option that doesn't have any significant safety compromise.
*Edit* Further reading looks like BEGI uses their fprs in-line with the stock fpr. Just wondering if there's any downside to that option.

I looked at some adapters like that, I just feel like I'm going to wait 2 weeks for it to get here and it won't fit. Plus I hate spending $20 on a stupid little adapter. I bought it, hopefully it gets here soon and fits.

I ran into that problem pdexta when I ordered the Turbosmart TS-0402-1001 adapter from Summit. It was listed as "Mazda" but it wasn't too hard to modify it to fit. I ended up using an angle grinder to cut away material and turn the existing bolt holes into slots.
It looks like the Turbosmart TS-0402-1002 would work just in case someone follows this thread and starts a similar project.

When installing a VVT engine into an NA you need to install an FPR near the rail. To go do this you either need a 99 fuel rail+90-93 FPR or an adapter.
