Default Used turbo - Safe to clean?

So I got a used stock turbo off of a sr20 motor and it's pretty nasty. Is it safe to clean it up a bit?

No. Hit it with a JDM hammer to spec up the bearings then put some hair spray on it to tighten it up and keep it from slipping. Good to go.

You can clean it up internally too, but if you are asking I'm guessing you've never had a turbo apart. Prolly best to skip the disassembly if so.
