wastegate update - thanks WOT
Recently replaced the eBay 38mm external wastegate with a 38mm Tial purchased from WOT. Great price and fast shipping.
The knockoff eBay wg worked fine, just in the 10-15 times I had it open to swap springs I probably damaged the diaphragm. I looked at it after noticing an extra 3psi while getting wheelspin at 1/2 throttle in 3rd gear.
The problem is that I could not find a replacement diaphragm. The 'Power Seller' that I purchased it from didn't respond to emails, messages or phone calls.
So, the best reason to go with the Tial is that replacement parts are readily available. The quality of the Tial is very good.
The Tial and this particular eBay WG were dimensionally the same so everything bolted up in minutes. Function is the same.
eBay T3/T4, bov, ic, etc are all still doing fine.
Anyone want a really cheap external WG to play with?
FYI:
Running the external WG on just the #4 runner, a 5.8psi spring gives me an actual 7psi at low rpm and creeps to around 10psi @ 7k. The old 3.63psi spring gave 5-6psi then crept to 10psi @ 7k. This is with a short open pipe on the WG.

This is markp's old manifold. I asked him about it and he never tried to run less than 10psi. I originally wanted to run very low boost for daily driving but don't care anymore. My goal is that the boost is low enough that I don't get unexpected wheelspin in 3rd and 4th gear while daily driving. The creeping boost doesn't shock the tires into spinning.
The creep is the same with the new Tial and the old eBay one. The issue is the WG only bleeding the #4 primary as close as possible to the head. If the WG was referenced to the collector there would be no problem with running very low boost with no creep.
The creep doesn't bother me at all, I actually have come to like it - the powerband feels really good. When I flip the switch boost is over that level and it doesn't matter anyways.
It isn't an old SSAC, it's eBay item# 300172635284. It's not a Tial knockoff and the diaphragm is different.
Ben, at $99 shipped brand new, it's not even worth your time to mess with my old one. You notice they have a 1 year unconditional warranty - if they respond to you.
