Default My experience with Bell Series S1...

Originally, my 1997 Miata was equipped with the Jackson Racing MP45 and 8 psi TDR upgrade pulley. The car felt pretty stout with low end torque, good response, and was about as fast as a stock 99-2003 GT. However, it suffered from noticable belt squeel, heat generation, and poor idle droop. I sold it along with the exhaust system.

Now I have the Bell Engineering Series 1 with GT2860RS turbo, 460 RX-7 Injectors, and Megasquirt PNP. It runs a smooth idle, pulls very hard at 12psi, and has little throttle lag, and can outrun a Camaro SS, but I still miss the throttle response and instant boost of the supercharger. If I had to decide again, I would have went with either Flyin Miata's Eaton MP62 or FFS MP62 coldside, with equivalent engine management or Xede.

Just my opinion, if idle droop and belt squeel were done away with on mine, the supercharger would be considered the best forced induction no doubt...

Yah... because parasitic power and giant amounts of heat are awesome.

Hate to be an ***... but this isn't miatasupercharger.com

Oh... and....

Might have more to do with going with a larger 2860RS turbo (relatively speaking) vs changing to turbo from SC. You sound like you might have been happier with the 2554 or 2560.

I dont know what lag you speak off. I get boost onset at 2k rpm and im at 6psi by 2500rpm and this is with a shitty T25g, if it was a GT2554 im sure it would be even faster. I also got a EBC on the way, cant wait to see how fast it hits 10psi.

Full 7-8 psi boost is attained instantaneous with a positive displacement supercharger, I clearly mentioned that heat generation is an offset, especially on the 45 series Eaton. As for parasitical drag, more power was made to offset the difference.

It's just my opinion for the type road conditions that I do, but really the spool up is fast as I need it.

I liked the sound that eaton made, almost like a jet turbine, really kewl...

turbos are just more efficient in smaller engines.

just because it sounds "kewl" doesn't mean it makes power.

^ It works too.

Trade Sav for his GT254R turbo...It will spool instantly on the 1.8 and will bolt right up to everything you have...still make more power than the SC setup too. Throttle response + better mid-top end than that setup could ever dream of.
