The sound of this blow off valve is great i think. I know there is a on going Holy War between Miata people and if you should go Atmosph. or Recirc. Well
I've decided to make a little noise! Now i have heard this sound a few times such as on the Best motoring video that came with Sport Compact Car Magazine a few months ago. Thw WRX in the touge battle sounds the same. Some one said its a piston type bov. I really have no idea, any and all help would be great. Here is a clip let me no what you think and what it is.

Yeah it's a Tial. There is only one kind and they're available through www.atpturbo.com Contact wideopentuning for a discount, he has forum member pricing in the for sale section. Looks like he has:
Tial 50mm BOV $202
versus

The Tial isn't supposed to sound like that though. They are supposed to blow off in a clean whip sound. That is best accomplished by drilling and tapping the intake manifold and running a line straight to the BOV without T-ing it off to anything. Otherwise you'll get that fluttering sound as shown in that clip.

are you sure thats a TIAL bov? I have heard a lot of tials but none of them sound like that. It honestly sounds like a HKS 1st gen sequential bov. The first gen HKS would flutter a ton if it was put on the turbo side of the IC pipes farthest away from the throttle body. You can make any bov flutter by moving it farther away from the thottle body and closer to the turbo outlet. I had a HKS 1st gen sequential right after my turbo compressor outlet and it would flutter all day long.

I think what you say about the flutter is true, but i think the sound might just really be a tial. This eclipse run said its running a tile too. This one doesnt flutter and you have to listen a little bit harder but i think its it. Let me know what you think ok.

sounds exactly like Brad's (newbsauce) $20 ebay BOV.
the problem is, that's what you would describe as flutter. and it's not good or cool. I can make my bov sound just like it is I crank the adjustment screw to the stops. It means the BOV is too tight.

Most the vacuum ports on the Miata intake manifolds are too small. Thats the cause of the flutter. I did a writeup on it over a year ago when I had a similar issue with my Tial. New larger vacuum ports and only clean crisp blow offs. Even at 3.5 psi.

The Tial when being properly actuated will sound like a whip.
I'll pass on the chirp as well. For the most part when you run into a car on the street and its chirpy its usually not very fast. That **** is for kids.

my greddy type R will blow off fine on the miata... but you gotta use BOTH the boost and vac ports. I can get it to blow off just by blipping the throttle under the hood. quite a bit of air comes out of that thing even off-boost.
