Ok I'm posting this in the diy turbo forum because I didnt consider it race only and most likely people who run them have diy turbo setups. If you wanna move it feel free.

Alright men, I like the idea of the rx7 oil cooler since it's big, doesn't seem to need a ton of airflow to really work for our cars and has a built in thermostat.

Question: I can't find too much info on oil pressure drops with it, if you're running one please post up with
- na/fi
- oil cooler type (fb,fc,fd)
- previous and current oil pressure (using the stock gauge)
- oil line size, oil filter size (I read good things about wix), oil wt
- if possible oil temp after install on street+track/where temp gauge is mounted.

Second question:
I've heard that the rx7 thermostat is 140*, which imo sounds a little low for a piston street car. I know people run 2 thermostats, but what is a good temp to try? 180? 200? Does the 140 just workout to like 190-200 o.t. on street with lack of airflow?

I know I asked for pretty fawkin specific info so if you dont have it all no worries. Any info, suggestions, etc is much appreciated

*edit* one more thing:
Is anyone using the fb gsle oil cooler? According to rx7club.com it's supposed to be about 1-2 inches shorter then the fc... But is there any drawbacks?

Which should answer your second question in a "We do this, no problems result" fashion. If it's good enough for Savington, Thesnowboarder, and Hustly, it's probably good enough for almost any application.

The FB GSL-SE oil cooler is going to be harder to find, and likely a lot more expensive. The GSL-SE did not have many of it's trim level produced compared to the rest of the FBs and is not common. The FC coolers are cheap and easy to find.

As for your first, I'd PM one of the guys referenced in the above thread.

I read through that thread and a few others and in one of the threads someone said they lost about 10 psi of pressure. Tube/fin oil coolers with 8-an line would have almost no pressure loss I assume... I'm sure they do it and it works but I'm mostly curious about the details. I would really like those guys to post up for everyone to see what kind of oil pressure and temps they're seeing because I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering.
The reason I asked about the fb cooler was because a friend has one for real cheap with racing beat stainless lines.

The main reason I'm wondering is so I can figure out how much(if at all) to shim the oil pump spring by.

After tons of research and trying it on my own, this isn't going to do anything for you except when the oil is cold. I had 15 psi warm oil pressure, put in 2 shims, and still have 15 psi warm oil pressure. It changes oil pressure on cold starts though.

The GSL-SE oil cooler is identical to the FC oil cooler for your purposes, with the only differences being the FC oil cooler has larger end tanks (the core size is nearly identical IIRC) and that the GSL-SE opens at a lower temperature (120F vs 140F IIRC, hit up the 7club for the exact number). The GSL-SE oil cooler, however, is more prone to leaking than the FC. You'll want to be aware of that.
