Default ATTS Drag -12.755@109mph

A local club runs an interesting series, in which the final event is a drag.

This year, I improved my times, by switching to a 99 head, and increasing the boost slightly. I still got left in the dust, mainly by the Subaru's and a few fast pony cars, that were running in the 11's.....

Like most Miatas at the drags, I found launching with street tires to be a big challenge. I found that I obtained the best 60', by launching at low rpm's, allowing the rears to hook up, and then hoofing it.

Here's an in car video.

Here is the fastest time slip.

My set up is not typical: A Thunderbird SC, Starion IC, GM 2x48TB, MS1, 2xMSD6A ignition, 1.8L etc. in a Mariner blue 1990, all optimized for autocross, on tiny Canadian parking lots.

A better 60' then I have cut, so I wouldn't consider that too bad on street tires. How much power are you making? I cannot see any videos either btw. Good run!

I am running Falken 615's in 205/50/15. The drag strip, uses some type of traction compound, which improves grip significantly.

Thanks. I ran 218 mustang HP last year, but am having some issues with running higher boost this year. Probably ~240-250HP at the drags...

Yeah, I wish 1&2nd gear would hook up like that on the street, but they don't. I'll post some pic's shortly. "Props" -maybe not after you see the pics

Nice. How much boost? Is that at Cayuga?

Ok, here is a rather busy underhood shot.

Starting from the upper left and going CCW.
-red boxes are the MSD6A ignition driving stock 90 coils.
-pressure regulator and valves for wi.
-EV14 750cc injectors
-expansion tank for coolant (rad has been lowered)
-2 stage wi nozzles
-no reroute, I'm using an 02 head gasket
-8rib belt driving sc @ 2:1
-the blower. the throttle body is on the back of the sc. Air is routed thru an air cleaner under the fender at the bumper, up thru a hole in the inner fender to the back of the sc.

What rear end do you have Shifty McShortgear?
I have a 4.10 torsen. 1st gear is nice for pulling up the incline on my driveway, into the garage.

Is that at Cayuga?
Yes Cayuga, but now they call it "Toronto Motorsport Park"
How much boost?
Currently ~18psi. I recently have been trying to determine why my HP is low for this boost level. (other than the fact that it's an inefficient SC of course) Testing shows my intercooler is too restrictive, so I just put a better flowing one on order. Hopefully, I'll know if this is the answer, before the snow flies.

Pretty neat car, and nice runs. Do you plan to further develop the motor with the set up you have?

Thank you, for the positive comments!

The engine does have forged rods, ceramic coated pistons and a billet oil pump. My winter plans are to replace the intercooler (which is restrictive), fix up the exhaust and possibly do some head work.

I would love to have some drag radials, but since I only run once per year, that is unlikely. How much time do you find they improve your ET by?

Went to the dyno a little over a week ago and ended up with this. I retarded the timing slightly between run 8,9 and 10. Run 11 is with a restrictor in the piping leading to the intake manifold.

Here's the data log of one of the runs.
Megalogviewer pic

If I get my act together, I may be able to replace the intercooler and get another base dyno run, before the snow hits.

Damn that's a nice *** power/torque curve and 250 on a sc is impressive.

curve like that for a daily would be phenomenal.
