Default EMB resistor for NB?

I was perusing the classifieds, got too late to a good one, but found something interesting.

"1K Resistor soldered in board for MAF (I can remove before shipping if needed) This is needed on the NB's but not the 90-97's"

Could someone please explain to me what good this resistor does, and why one would need it? I've never heard about it before, on the other hand, I havent installed or tuned with EMB either.

thanks.

so i need to install an EMB on a 99'.

the link above for the resistor:
does the resistor get soldiered into TWO pins on the lower part of the board. it looks like pins labeled "ch1-ch2" ?

also can i find this resistor at any electronics store? say radioshack?

the boomslang harness is a little expensive .is it worth it to buy it. or should i save a $100 and buy the harness cables and wire them up myself? ( i think i can)

also Giff , i see on your site , you have the usb cable and software. is this the same as the greddy support tool and cable?

so revue:
basically i need,
1 Resistor
2 software /cable
3 harness

is this it?

plan to run na for now

Thats pretty much it, I'll send you a free resistor if you want they only cost a couple of pence.
Just solder it to the two pins as per the pics and Bob's your very odd uncle.

On the lower part of the board, only one, Pin ch2, and then to the pin on top (Third one left to right >>> or second one right to left )

I wish I had put all my writeups over in that forum for the EMB, then at least they would still be around....
The resistor is a 1/4 watt 1K (1/2 watt is ok too) available anywhere resistors are sold... (or if you have an old radio to use for salvage parts

Sorry to bring back up an old thread but what exactly does having this resistor soldered in do or correct about the emb?

I just wired in my first emb (minus the resistor for now) to the 99 mx5 including the injector and ignition wires, but i'm still waiting on the support cable to actually tune it.

The car starts up and i'm not getting any red lights/codes but if you hold the idle at 1500rpm it constantly hunts around and won't stabilize. Is the resistor supposed to correct this?

I have the Jumpers in default settings and the switches set to 3 A 0 with all the other ***** at 0.

anyone got an idea?
