Emu, 2004 msm & cel p0351/p0352
Hi,
I have a JDM Turbo Roadster which is the equivalent to the MSM in the states (except for some stuff like a inbuilt 180km/h speed limiter)
My tuner spliced in the EMU over several hours and tuned the car, however some weird issues did crop up.
1) Speed sensor was routed through the EMU in an attempt to defeat the speed limiter but it seems to activate a CEL P0351/P0352 (ignition coil A&B), so my tuner turned off the speed cut option in the settings and all seemed well.
He then proceeded to do a on road tune (with a wide band and with the OBD plugged in) and all was ok.
However when he unplugged the OBD scanner removed after tuning the same P0351 / P0352 CEL keeps popping up - sometimes immediately, sometimes after several minutes.
But the CEL will not come on when the OBD is left plugged in.
As it was 2am and everybody was too tired to think - I proceeded to drive home (about 5 miles) after he cleared the CEL code. On my drive home, the CEL did not come on.
However this morning - when I started the car - the CEL came on again. I am going down to my tuner later on to sort out this problem. Other than this, the car pulls strong and runs without any issues from what I can tell with my short drive.
Things we have tried - JP8 setting was initially 5V, switched to 12V - no difference - CEL still comes on after a while.
Did change the spark plug to NGK BKRE6-IX (iridiums) gapped at 0.8mm. Also a set of Autoexec spark plug wires just prior. However during the 2hr tuning session - there was no CEL - only after the OBD II scanner was removed at the end of the session did the CEL come on??
My tuner is going to double check the wiring later on but the weirdness is that the car runs absolutely fine!
Any comments?
thanks

For me the EMU is actually working fine - allowing me to boost to almost 14psi without any issues whatsoever - car pulls strong without any hiccups.
It's just this isolated CEL that is bothering me. It comes on sometimes on starting the car, sometimes after a bit of idling.
Some updates - the crank angle / cam angle is not connected, speed cut is not connected.
after many hours of trying - my tuner has decided to let the stock ECU control the ignition and bypassing the EMU for the time being. I'm going back another day to try again. (So far no CEL on my drive back).
