As a follow up to this thread I am seriously considering adding four EGT probes to my header and while it would be nice to log the data, I will probably just hook up gauges to use during the tuning process.

Search revealed a lot of suggestions to log EGT and some discussion of EGT values in the 930 to 980c range. (1700 to 1800f)

The ever accurate Wikipedia lists type K thermocouples as having a max temp of 1100 or 1300c (continuous or short term), so a type K should work.

I am trying to weigh my options.

If I go the higher tech route with DIYAutotune components, it looks like the thermocouples themselves are somewhere around $75 each if you count the clamp or fitting. Then I "need" the TC-4 at $129. That puts me at around $450 for a solution I can monitor and log with the Logworks software that came with my LC-1.

A lower tech route gets me ~$50 clamp on Westach EGT probes and two Westach dual EGT gauges at $105. So figure $410 for a solution that I can monitor without a laptop in the car but can't log.

I would guess that the Westach EGT probes would work with the TC-4 and save me a few dollars bringing the cost to $329 which seems like the way to go but lacks the "WOW" of the additional gauges.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, especially if you have been there, done that with regards to EGT measurement.

Never BTDT with individual cylinder measurements, but I'd go with the Innovate route. I'd also get one of their other sensor interfaces to capture as many parameters as possible. I'd also want 1 CHT probe to compare against EGT.

You understand, that this will be a slippery sloped path to engine management that offers individual cylinder trims, right?

The TC4 does work with other K type thermocouples besides the ones we have. It's also possible to add a XD16 to the TC4 later down the road.

Speaking of slippery slopes, there's a CANBus device for MS that will log multiple EGT probes in the works.
