Default megaPROBLEM running on 2 cyl. (GAYNESS INSIDE)

OMG wtf i swear to god it's like every week this piece of trash pukes parts all over the transit system!!!! i cant go 3 days without having to get a goddam tow ever since i got this shitbox i've spent tons more time working on it than driving Blown hose here, broken sensor there, it leaks oil so much i don't ever have to change oil, just refill, I cant go past 5krpm otherwise the car starts shacking like CRAZY!! lol it also has left me stranded in downtown chicago of all the glorious places(south side too, i was legitimately scared for my 6uls) with all the money i've spent on headgaskets i probably could have paid off the state debt, it has blown off both belts TWICE, what a **** load of ****!! my coworkers have gotten used to my perpetual lateness. i've had to get rides up the ***. one time the clutch slave blew out and i got a ride on a 650 bike that was cool i gess. i am surprised when i can get the car started in the morning without something blowing up. lol this thing isn't even as reliable as an old jag, lol well besides the time it left us stranded after a mysterious coolant leak. at least that was able to start in the morning unlike this PILE OF HORSE *****. THIS CAR IS DIARRHEA OUT OF MY DICK and now THIS happens!! :gay: I should have gotten an evo

I think my ms eeprom may be corrupted because my values are constantly changing, even though i save everything, shut down, and turn off the car. When I turn it back on, tunerstudio will ALWAYS have a difference report, usually where a bunch of VE cells or sometimes spark cells are changed, even though they were NOT! Then one day I was tuning and the car just started running on 2 cyl randomly! I used to be able to jiggle the db9 port and that would fix it, but now it only runs on 2, and sometimes the injector pulses decide to fire simultaneously making for an awkwardly running 2 cyl engine. When testing with the Stim, the ignition is only firing for one bank of injectors (I1) I have tried reflashing with HR-10, no luck. I am using the mspnp 94 base map for now with only the spark output set to "inverted" I have brand new spark plugs!
The only other thing i can think of is bad plug wires or a bad coil, although I don't know how that could happen. I will get some new wires at NAPA today to see if that will help. If nothing works, I guess ill have to go back to the stock computer Another option might be to get the MSII board hmmm...

Dude....I read the first paragraph and not only do I have a headache I feel sorry for your car. Sell it to someone who knows what the hell they're doing and go buy something with a warranty.

Damn, I thought I had it bad. Just out of curiosity, why is your spark inverted? Improved spark drivers? If not you might have burnt up your coils.

You may have some bad connections if you have to jiggle **** to get it to work. What is the history on the MS?

Post your msq so we can have a look.

Haha alright you gays, I installed the oem junk this morning and everything is working great. I'm guessing there is a short on the ms, and something to do with ig output is fried. I will be poking around with a voltmeter tonight. Chances are something with the RS232 or eprom has busted a nut.

I built the spark outputs so that they are on only when the eprom's outputs are on, using joe perez's method, so i don't get a POP in the engine and accidentally fry my igniters. Yeah, i'm thinking something is up with the db9 port because ever since I jiggled it, this problem haz started. I built this ms a few months ago and it has been flawless up until now. I think i have a thread about it somewhere.. mods are just a fan relay, spark mod, PWM control and HR10. i am using the 94mspnp base .msq for testing right now

You're not doing it right. Belts dont just randomly 'blow off'.

this is correct, but when i started having the same issue(ps belt kept coming off) i discovered that the bolt that held it to the engine was finger tight. With the AC delete i had to find the exact right length belt since i no longer had the tensioner.

that was a fun autocross season, 9 inch wide hoosiers with busted power steering.....

But as for the OP, sometimes you just need to start over and look over everything, it sucks but this is supposed to be fun.

seriously, it sounds like your **** is F'd up. If there is a connection that when jiggled essentially causes your car to become a 2 cylinder, OBVIOUSLY you need to fix that ****. Pull out the oxidized blunt tip soldering iron you "built" your MS with and fix your connection issues. Then, ask an actual ******* question instead of making a blog post on your difficulties of getting to work and the half-*** methods you're using to fix your car.

PS- if your fb status was "DIARRHEA OUT OF MY DICK" i'd "like" it. simple, yet it inspires such vivid imagery

Db9 should have nothing to do with the spark or injector circuits, only involved in loading your firmware and .msq's. Somethings not right.

Sounds like you may have a tweaked bracket causing your belts to fly off. Have you considered buying a decent long block and swapping it? Or buying a crappy long block and rebuilding it?

This is an old thread.

Sorry, I realize I have left a lot of details in the air. I completely rebuilt the engine ground up 2 months ago (during finals), due to previous overheating. Here is the thread, the last post pretty much sums it up: http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread...=371274&page=2

The belts are a completely different problem. I have been chewing through a belt every 2 weeks due to oil getting on them, as described in this thread: https://www.miataturbo.net/general-miata-chat-9/oil-pump-vent-48363/ I plugged it, but it still leaks a little.

As for the MS, I started poking around but didn't find anything out of norm on the board, but when I checked the harness, the insulation on one of the +12v wires looked like a nuclear meltdown Armageddon for some reason unbeknown to me, perhaps too small a gauge of wire. And as Curly said, the DB9 RS-232 controller's logic drivers and receivers are able to withstand indefinite short to ground for like 20v, so there cannot be a problem there. I also reflashed twice and used the MSPNP base .msq, but no bananas. The conclusion I am drawing is that the eeprom is faulty. My .msq values are constantly changing. After the engine rebuild, I had to download a fresh basemap, because the similar basemap I was using before the build (which ran fine) wouldn't even start the engine (about 4 weeks downtime). I will be ordering a MSII microcontroller soon, so I'll keep you guys updated.

I would like to apologize to you and everybody else who reads that. So far it has been running strong as my daily for almost a year now after the rebuild. West Chicago huh? I used to go over there all the time when I worked at WSB. We should catch up at some of the miata meets we have in the summertime.
