ViPEC - V88 Model ECU
They even have a PNP for the later miatas. Seems like it has a **** ton of features, must be expensive.

What's up with Australia and kick *** engine management? That's where the Xede is from too.

so the software is free, so I downloaded it. Alot of cool stuff, I mean individual cylinder fuel correction, same with timeing. variable boost control depending on engine temp! aircon clutch output, 3 different boost tables, open loop boost control, VVTi control...

The Adaptronic is also from Oz and is PnP with similar list of features: .:AdapTronic:.
I think most people will say for NA's, that MS PNP is a huge bang for the buck, Xede is great for guys looking for an under-300whp NB, Zoom3 for a 200whp NB, and Hydra is the Daddy. Link fits in there fine for NA's as well.
Zoom3 PnP= $800
MS PnP + LC1 + MAF delete + EBC= $1k.
Xede comes with injectors for $1650.
Hydra + EBC = $2150.
MS and Hydra still need injectors, and used 460's or 550's are around $200 after cleaning/flowing.
To be competitive, the Adaptronic or Vipec would need to be PROVEN damn close to Hydra in capability, and you would need to be out the door with injectors and wideband for under $1500... otherwise, the extra $650 for a proven product and support makes Hydra impossible to beat.
I am completely on the fence about my NB engine management. I'd love Hydra, but I can't afford it new. I love MS, but it's a little more effort on NB's. Zoom3 won't give me the capability. Xede and Link are not in the cards. If the "import" standalones want to get some marketshare in the states, they need to do some advertising/recruiting and get a few guys with some reputation to test/promote them. The specs for ViPec and Adaptronic show them on par or superior to Hydra and could be a great bargain... but they'll never go anywhere in the US market without at least a few respected guys running them... and of cours the price has to be right.
There are a few other PnP available Standalones out there... Wolf comes to mind, and I know there is at least one or two from one of the Scandanavian countries floating around if you were really going to do your homework.
Oh yah, and none of the Vipec US distributors have websites.

KPLAFIN, did you ask just about the V88 or did you ask about the V44 as well? Might be lower cost, but still has enough features to keep me happy.

If this was $1000 I'd go for it over the PnP Zoom3, but I fear it will be over $1500. I read the setup sheet on the Autotune software. I wonder how much that costs. I assume it is not included.

^When the time comes, I just may get in contact with the appropriate people and see what kind of deal can be struck as a "tester" of one of these other ECU's. I can be objective and truthful... and perhaps it might be worth it for a manufacturer to make me a deal in return for my evaluation as a regular Joe. If it's a good product, then I'd be set... but if it sucks, I can sell it to a Brit and not be out anything.

Not me... still Miata'less. There are a couple Oz and British MX5 forums you could try to see what kind of luck they're having with the ViPec. Adaptronic is working out just fine around here.
I'm hoping that DIY comes out with a projected "ready" date for 99-00 MSpnp sometime soon.
