Default Miata Coils Wiring

Hi there,

I am currently wiring in a Motec M8 into an Toyota 3S GE engine using Miata coils (running wasted spark)...

I would like your help figuring out the coil wiring. My coils are as follows

Just want to know how to wire them basically, what is trigger, +12V and ground.

Are these coils of adequate quality. The car will be N/A so no need for very strong ignitions.

These are smart coils correct? They have built in ignitors??

Sorry I searched but couldn't find this info an no adequate wiring diagrams.

This setup is not mine, Im just finishing this project and doing the tuning on it.

Thanks!
Paulo

Hi,

Please can someone help me on this?

I recently powered up the ECU (Motec M8) and the coils overheated a lot...theres certainly something wrong with my wiring.

Can someone help?

Regards,
Paulo

Your vehicle is not even a miata Sorry bud, no idea.

Others whom have built miata specific looms may chime. Best of luck to you.

Hi

Thanks. Ive found some wiring diagrams and I think Ive got it.

From the right, when looking to the coil terminals, its, 12V, spare, trigger and ground.

I will try that today and see if the coils keep cool.

Thanks,
Paulo

Default FINALLY

So Ive worked it out.

I downloaded 2 mx5 wiring diagrams, one for the 4 wire type coils and one for the 3 wire ones (different model years)

Both were wrong and produced no spark.

The final setup that worked was:

12 V
Spare (previous tacho)
Ground
Trigger

In the both diagrams the trigger came between the 12V and Ground...not on my coils...

How shitty are the 3S-GE coils that a Miata coil is an upgrade?

Nice input lol

This is a budget build...MX5s were available and they had to do.
