Default ECU for ITB, MS3x vs AEM

I know.

Is there any effective reason to go with one or the other on an ITB setup?

I'm going to stick with MAP, not alpha-n.

MAP with ITBs? This seems like a non-educated decision. Have you ever tuned ITBs on just MAP?

Non educated indeed. The research I did came to that MAP would work with a large vacuum box.

Also, I should have been more specific. I meant that I wanted to stay away from pure alpha-n. I'm not informed on what ecu has the best itb mode, I know Ms3 has one.

Both the MS2 and the MS3 have hybrid ITB modes.

Right, I understand that. I'm just asking if there's a specific ecu that would be preferable. I'm not sure if all ITB modes are equal.

You talking about the ems4 or the aem v1/v2?

Worry more about the way to tune the different mixed/hybrid modes than the theory behind them.
Just making pure Alpha-N stable is a lot more cumbersome than simple MAP on a plenum.

A tuning mode than can tune the mixed mode at once would make it more noob friendly (no idea if it would be possible even in theory).

18psi: Not sure, those were simply the two most commonly supported ECUs I could find, and being able to look up Miata related info means a lot. I'm somewhat used to using an MS1, so I was planning to go MS3x, but made this thread to verify it.

Have you considered Electromotive? I have a basic Ignition from them, and plan to step up to a unit that has more sophisticated ignition control, and the ability to control ITBs when I am ready to make the leap. I have been very happy with the basic unit. It would probably not be your best choice if you have already done ignition enhancements.

To be honest, I hadn't. I didn't even know they had something that wasn't twenty years old. Follows with my wanting to stick with what's popular here for ecu options when I'm learning.

TPS tune mode.. i know adaptronic has it.

Map without a plenum wont do **** so unless you're planing on bridging some 1" hose between the IRTBs it wont work.

i run an ems 4 on itbs as far as the tune goes it works fine on tps mode. having a large vacuum accumulator would work but would also narrow the tuning window. in effect it would have less resolution on the map sensor signal. i did this and had little fluctuation from the map. i have tuned on the ms3 as well on a freinds corolla and was more impressed with their hybrid map it ran nice and had all the benifits of both tuning methods.

the early units were a pain in the vagina.

I hear the new 1280 or whatever its called are pretty legit, but then they're like 1200 or something. I'm cool

Well, it sounds like MS3's hybrid mode is pretty killer then. Thanks for the replies, everyone. Now I just need to get an MS3x built by someone.
