Default 99-00 Intake Gut---Questions First

Hi,
I picked up this top half of the 99-00 intake manifold at the junk yard. (I was going back to get the entire head, but someone beat me to it) I wanted to know if the manifold has coolant running through it?

I just wanted to make sure when I gut this I haven;t missed anything.

On a separate issue, I found out the VICS system isn't working. It could be that it's not hooked up to the MegaSquirt. Vacuum actuator is not sucking in at start-up. The vacuum line that goes through the RPM switch attaches to a spot on the underside of the lower half of the manifold on the car. There does not seem to be an accumulator in the system anymore (previous owner?)
Looking for options to make this work with the addition of the gutting of the upper half from the junk yard to increase manifold interior volume.
Thanks for the help,
-JB

The hole on the left is for EGR and the hole on the right is to feed the butterfly valves in the manifold.

Has anyone seen useful improvements from gutting the 99 manifold? I know several people have tried (including Keith at FM) but I don't remember seeing anyone measuring an improvement on the dyno?

i have the same curiosity and am trying to find a manifold just like that. I talked to Brandon at FM earlier this week about this same issue. I believe, and don't quote me, he said Keith did some testing on gutting the upper half and found no gains. However it wasn't a boosted car during the tests from my understanding. Let me know if any gains under boost are found. Or just send it to me and I'll do some hacking.

With a turbo'ed car you are looking at many times the original air flow. Try to think in terms of where the potential flow restrictions will be along the path from the throttle body to the intake valve and minimize the restrictions.

Still have to find out why its not working at all. What input on the MS2 extra should the butterfly signal wire feed into?

Take vics out.

I keep repeating myself. With a gutted uppwe and lower power kept building for me to 400hp at 8000rpm.

With intake or exhaust manifold, in general, gains will be proportionate to the amount of power you are running. 10pct gainat 200hp is 20hp. 10pct at 400hp is 40hp.

No water in intake. There is in the throtle body.

This.

I gutted, removed the egr hump through the "neck" and polished the hell out of everything.....and hated it. Definitely felt a bump in top end power but it was a limp dick everywhere else.

The problem is you need more boost.

The drivabilty in low rpm did change for me too. I tuned it out by running a bit richer in light load below 3000rpm.

For 250hp don't bother with the intake.
