Do us a favor and start a new thread for the 38hp from porting on a 1.6 in the UK. In that thread we can ask you questions about your CNC head.

No, forged FM bottom end and FM II Turbo and Adaptronic ECU. Work in progress.

Mazda MX5 1.6-1.8-2.0L | CNCHeads
Got some more information about that? Like a before and after dyno run? Looking to do the same and still not sure if its worth the money. But real 38hp would be a deal.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, I cannot send PM because I am missing post counts. So answer per PM is fine. Thanks

Back to 949's CNC head info. Any numbers or expected availability dates yet?

Head is available now. Contact me directly for prices and options.

We needed one of the beta heads for nationals so we pushed testing back a bit. No schedule for completion of testing though. Just whenever we get it done. I can tell you that the before/after numbers you can expect will be met with some skepticism. Folks will be surprised at how much gains are to be had with just a built head running stock cams.

We're investigating cam profiles for a VVT cam so we can offer a simple and affordable upgrade path for those with usage requirements that don't have emissions constraints.

I'd expect that at full retard, the overlap is so small that emissions wouldn't be a problem even with a very long duration intake cam. The VVT range is so large you can run way more overlap than optimal at full advance.

Longer cams draw less vacuum at idle and generally dont idle well. There is a dividing line between cams that idle smooth, make reasonable torque below 4500, have smooth powerbands and other cams that make big power past 7000.

I want to test the relatively shor duration,, high lift Toda cams for the 6D head.Toda/Maruhas only testing was on a stock engine so, not a complete picture. They might be just the ticket to retain OEM like qualities below 5000 with more torque and still make useful power above 7000. We'll see.

I may have missed it, but you'll be offering this service on 1.6 heads as well, yes? I'd love to see a before and after on that. I'm assuming you've been referring to the later '99 heads being an impressive upgrade, I can only assume we'd be even more floored after work on what is universally assumed to be the worst head in the miata line up, the mighty 1.6.

Let me know if you need a test dummy.

Unless you are restricted by a rule set somewhere, I don't understand why you would want to spend more that OEM rebuild money on a B6. In many other countries there are road tax benefits to staying under 1.6L. The Miata owners that stay with a B6 because registration is cheaper are not CNC head customers.

:( no 1.6 love...

I guess the target price of $2750 is too much for a 1.6!
