ok, so i did some searching and can't find a clear answer.

just wondering if i can delete the IAC valve mounted to the throttle body on a 1.6. my car will be turbo and will be run with a megasquirt.

just wondering if this is a component i can eliminate in my build.

can anyone shed some light on this. i'm not even sure what the damn part does, lol.

i'll be assembling my motor in the next few weeks and just need this info soon so i know what to do in this matter.

Basically it regulates your cars rpm at idle by opening and closing letting air in and out.

You can remove it and fab a plate to cover the holes on the tb above, but i wouldnt recommend it. I don't have one and every time i start my car cold it idles horribly bad and low for about 30 sec. But after that it idles like its there. Just expect a few ugly stares when u first start your car.

I was amazed when finished that I could actually identify my throttle body as a throttle body.

so again, why, Speedworks, do YOU need/want to run without one?

I reckon good advice would be that before you go ahead and bolt in that MSPnP that perhaps you research a bit more. Not knowing what an idle air control valve is, despite its name, tells us that you should research a bit more before trying to tune your engine.

so if its just gonna idle ugly for a minute then be fine, i can live with that.

i want to eliminate it to clean up the bay some and get rid of any unnecessary items in there. if the car can run fine without it, then i don't need it.

ok, so basically from what i've gotten so far from reading this and the other thread linked in here is that i can delete the valve, but i'll have to adjust my idle a bit. and i live in a warm climate area, Miami, so outside temp shouldn't be an issue at all. i do plan on running AC on my car, but no PS, so will that be a problem?

With AC on, there's an added load on the engine and the idle valve would help compensate for it by opening a bit more. Without the valve in place, there'd be no way for the engine to react to the extra load and if the idle speed was too low before the AC was turned on, it may stall. The fix there is to raise the idle speed, but then you'll be running at that idle speed at all times.

I don't have an idle valve in my car, but I also don't have AC. It does clean things up not having it. I don't have to run a line to it from the intercooler piping and I know it was leaking boost when I just had a filter on it. So I deleted it rather than finding another one and plumbing it into my coldside. It worked for me, but if I was keeping the AC (***** ) I'd have an idle valve.

yea i dont have ac neither and in fact i havent even ran the cold air since its been removed so i dont know how that will effect it but you should definetly keep it.
Only reason im not running it now is cause i was rushed putting a 1.8 in a 16 n didnt know how didnt know how to plum it. But come summer its gunna be put back on.
So dont remove it unless you have a reason.

the system works fine when bypassed but you idle will be erratic at times. I went for more than a year with mine blocked off, and i find the everyday useability so much better with it plumbed in and operational.

Yes you can. I have two block off plates for both the places the IAC system bolts on. But I wouldn't do it if you have power steering or A/C. I have neither so I'm not worried.

I set my idle manually and it's rock solid.

I dont use one on my LS1 throttle body and have not problems. But my car only idles in the hot pits and is only driven at the track.

AC will be fine but you'll have to deal with a high idle when the AC is off. Set your idle to 1200rpm with the AC off and when you click it on it should pull it down to 900-1000rpm.

I don't use one in the black car - the IAV mounts to the intake manifold on the B18 stuff and I didn't get one when I bought my parts.

Street cars, OTOH, get idle valves. There is no reason (other than laziness) to not run an idle valve on a street car.

In my case, since the valve wasn't working properly anyway, it was either get another one, wait for it to come in, install it, plumb it into the IC piping.. or spend 5 minutes with the jigsaw and a leftover bit of street sign. Meh.

Right. I had two of them **** the bed on me leading to erratic idle. Since I've removed it I've enjoyed the rewards of a manually set idle - consistent inconsistency .

My cars also not a DD so I'm willing to forgo some conveniences.

Oh, and as Brain stated - it looks 'hella clean'. I am a designer, I can't help it.




Whether or not I can get away with no dashpot ... we shall find out come spring.

With the variable TPS and MS I think I can do without. Just another thing to fail right? (the one on my car was sticking along with IAC)

I like simplicity so long as it still functions. If I need to bolt the dashpot back on I won't lose sleep over it. I'm pragmatic - my fuse box is and will remain under the hood.
