Default Digging up the Exhintake thing again...

So, I did some searching on the whole exhintake theory. Does anyone have any conclusive HP gains? The only thread I've seen on here that deals with this mod was dated from a year ago. I've got an old exhaust from a 95 NA that I figured to try out.

There used to be a bunch of information on miata.net about the mod, and from what I remember, it did give some HP gains. But really, a turbo is so much better, just do that.

Oh trust me. That is coming. But just raised the car from the dead because of a bad past owner, so cheapness is key at the moment. I got given a millenia S supercharger but it needs some work.

yeah I used that template for the cam gear. What I'll probably end up doing is getting the miata road worthy, dyno the car, do the cam and dyno it again. What I don't get is why do you have to drill that hole in the gear? why not just move the cam gear over X# of teeth on the timing belt?

Mike Riv did this exintake swap and from what I remember, he claimed that it messed up his engine somehow and that while you are NA it's fine, but once you hit boost, it really doesnt help at all, but hurts you.

hrk was the first person I found running the exhintake w/turbo. His numbers seemed to be higher than most, all other things being equal. I don't think there is any before/after exhintake testing.

I've run it NA and turbo. I have adjustable cam gears and tried 6+ different settings while NA. AFR's changed wildly with very small cam timing changes. A good setting for NA probably isn't going to be perfect for forced induction.

I have tried a few different settings post turbo then realized that to get things right I need to lock in my max boost and use an EGT to really set things up right. Haven't done it yet.

You can throw in an exhintake cam and have it work perfectly in the same way you can pnp an RX-7 afm or a standalone ecu.

If you want things to work properly you need to tune it to your application.
