So I called the guy doing my engine boring and he suggested ACL. But for some reason I want to say that I read a few negative things about them in the past?
IMO usually you can't beat OEM. But in this case it was never designed to have 300whp. What about GTX OEM bearings, or are they the same?

You guys using ACLs, are you all using their race bearings or their more standard Duraglide line? My understanding is that King bearings are more akin to the standard ACLs than the race bearings. What are the pros/cons of race bearings versus standard bearings in a dual purpose street/track motor?

ya, that what I was wondering as well. My car will be mainly a track car but I will also drive it on the street a lot. Like to work 2-3 times a week. So I need something that works both ways.
I'm going Rotrex, just so you can get an idea of what my build will consist of. Supertech's, M-tuned type rods, hayward performance head (local head guru) and MS1. + a C30-74 or C30-84 rotrex kit. I've talked to kraftwerks and a few others running them and really feel it's exactly what I've always been looking for in a high HP/dual purpose car. I hope to be the first person to run an uncorked rotrex on teh 1.6l

I just sent my King bearings that were worn out in my FM built motor back to King for inspection. Kings response was that I should be using Tri metal bearings for this application. They are working on developing some new tri-metal bearings.
In the mean time I think the tri metal ACL race bearings is what should be used for 250+ hp motors over King. Much higher load capacity. And I think FM may be re-thinking what bearings they use. My first built motor from FM had Clevite I believe it also had some bearing issues when taken apart.

I am using ACL Bearings in even my high compression motor as it will only be seeing the track and be pretty beat on. It depends on your use for the car though. If you are building a weekend car that makes 250hp and you don't drive the hell out of it, then you really don't have a NEED for race bearings. They are good for extra insurance, but not a necessity. If you plan on driving a high power car at the track at all, I would suggest race bearings in the build.
