So I am getting a 2001 engine since my 1999 since my motor left me with a pile of metal(nothing is useable)

My question is if I get a 2001+ motor can I swap the camshafts from my 1999 in as well as the cylinder 1 cam cap that is different and roll with it? Not looking to do anything ghetto but I want the car to appear as a 1999 not as a 1999 with the wrong engine in it.

Cliff notes. 2001 head/1999 cams/1999 #1 intake cam cap/valve cover(will the oil pan work from the 2001 with the 99 subframe

Exhaust cam is identical and compatible from 99-05. Intake cams from 99-00 to 01-05 are completely different and not compatible.

Impressive carnage! How exactly did you manage this?

Sav is correct. That mishmash combination of head parts is fail. IIRC the BP6D (VVT) head gets oil to the cam journals or lifters via the VVT oiling system, and the BP4W (99/00) head gets its oil from the block. You might be able to bolt it all together, but the cam would seize pretty quickly.

However: Oil pan is a non-issue, no problems fitting an 01/05 panned engine in a 99/00 chassis. The later NB2 engine is a direct drop-in for the NB1, EXCEPT for the VVT stuff (read: electrical) IIRC.

What are you using for management/ECU? Why not just get a complete 01-05 and run it with VVT? I'm actually looking at putting a complete 01/05 VVT head on my 99/00 bottom end.

Cam caps are machined to the head, you can NOT swap caps from one head to another with out some add'l machine work.

What equipment have you been trained to use?

I see the "cam cap swap" question fairly often, normally from new guys that do not know better.
